Nice to hear Browns fans getting some confidence. You realize we have a great run D right? How did Hillis do vs the Steelers and Saints D? Not so good right? I'm on my phone so can't check. It will be a very physical though. Your D is going up one of the best if not the best oline in the NFL. Colt will have to find his 3rd option, which is interesting because even Rex said how quick Colt is to take off.
If I was to focus on either team from an offensive stand point, I would go for the weakest part of either defense. In the case of the Brown they don't have any glaring weaknesses but the one thing that cost them early in the season was their DB's. Now that Haden has 8 games under his belt and the defense on whole has needed time playing together that has been cleaned up some. But if i was to go after the Browns I would look to hit them with big plays. One of the things the Browns try to do is to force the offense to go the length of the field. At times they play for field position and they are good at doing just that. They typically will get the ball near midfield and stall then kick. I can't quote numbers but Hodges has been deadly at getting the ball inside the 10 and the Browns rely heavily on their ST. There the best you'll see this year I promise. From there they try to make the offense drive the length of the field and look to make big plays and cause TO. It may look like you got them on the ropes but they seem to consistantly get the big play. Brees had 4 Ints and should have had at least 7. No bull. Yeah when you look at the stat line everything looked great then when it came time to dig deeper the 4 Ints killed NO. The fact that the Browns offense didn't have big numbers against NO was aproduct of NO turning the ball over for 2TD's. On one of those picks Brees had NO inside the red zone, then bam Int. For the Browns offense we use our TE's way more then most teams do. BW has been huge and EM has made some unbleivable catches in the passing game. I know you guys are familiar with BW from his Pat days. Well in this offense he is much more of a play maker then he ever was with the Pats. Look out for the PA with the Browns working on you LBers and safties. Your safties are your weakness. I think the Browns will go big. 2 TE's and play action out of it quite a bit when they do look for the Browns TE's to attack your safeties and LBers. They have gone after every team we have faced in this area and my bet is they will you guys too. if the Jets over commit to stopping Hillis they will get beaten by the TE's, I promise. Interesting game actually. Your offense matches up well against our defense, but our offense matches up well against your defense too. Your more talented no doubt but we play better team football, I think? this should be a hard fought game, the difference may be ST, if it comes down to that I think we win. It's funny as hell too me that most of the time leading into this season teams were focused on Cribbs now they think that if they stop Hillis they can win. Cribbs still plays for us and is a great weapon in the ST area. he has developed into an Ok reciever and don't forget the wild cat. We aren't a great team yet but we play great team football, thats our strength and everyone contributes, thats how we have been winning games. If we get you on your heels will beat you, because we won't let up, and we won't quit. This game will come down to who makes the least amount of mistakes is my bet. Either way I hope both teams play well, that the Browns win of course and that we both walk away healthy.... BTTB
This game troubles me. You can never underestimate a team that's been a laughing stock and is now on the rise. They've beaten two very good teams (the Patriots game was a trouncing) and they've got nothing to lose and everything to gain and will pull out the stops on almost every play. What the hell... why not? Confidence levels have to be through the roof for the Browns right now versus our last win being a nail-biting squeaker. The Browns can even afford to play a little recklessly to get this win, always a dangerous scenario. This game is a serious test for the Jets. This is a David and Goliath, root for the underdog, stadium totally insane-type game that we should win. The Jets have to take care of business and that means very few mistakes, do not turn over the ball and all but eliminate penalties. Our recent ball-dropping, penalty-laden, time out-wasting, 1st half challenge flag-burning, Sanchez inaccuracies-embellishing, 3-and-out propensities are not going to get it done. If we're truly the better (supposedly SuperBowl bound) team, then we have to play like we are... even against a team that doesn't have much to lose and might let caution go to the wind and take some chances for which we're not prepared. Are the Jets a better team? Yes, on paper. But as they say, "This is why they play the game."
I understand, but I don't think Colt McCoy will beat us. Theirs no way he beats our defense. If we can stop their run we should have this game.
Rob Ryan's a pretty good shit-talker as well. I thought this one was good from his presser: After Rex takes his loss, Rob said, “I won’t cry for him. I’ll be happy for me. It’ll be tears of joy for me.” This is shaping up to be a very physical game.
Think Colt is going to be prepared well for this game. I'm sure Rob Ryan who also likes the exotic blitz packages will have good info. to pass along to Browns offense for this week's preparation. My guess is that Jets D will stack box & force Colt to make plays. If Colt is good enough to force the Jets D to adjust & play honestly, then he opens up the box for Hillis. Colt is going to be put into the same situation Sanchez has been forced into for a couple weeks. Luckily, Colt doesn't have receivers as good as Sanchez. Close & low-scoring game, I think.
It's the "if" part that bothers me. Here's a good article on Hillis: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/11/jets_defenders_are_bullish_abo.html Jets defenders bullish about stopping Cleveland's Peyton HillisPublished: Friday, November 12, 2010, 5:00 AM Jenny Vrentas/The Star-Ledger Matt Sullivan/Getty ImagesJets defenders have the tough task of trying to slow down Cleveland running back Peyton Hillis this weekend. The praise has flowed freely all week at Jets headquarters for the Browns’ 6-2, 250-pound primary ballcarrier. Legs like stumps. Runs through defenders but yet nimble enough to hurdle them. The present-day incarnation of Mike Alstott. His name is Peyton Hillis, and among the defenses he’s battered are the Ravens (144 rushing yards), Bengals (102) and Patriots (184). This week he’s the Jets’ load, in what should be an old-school slugfest between a bruising running back and a physical Rex Ryan defense that has so far been excellent against the run. “He’s the throwback,” the Jets coach said. “The old three yards and a cloud of dust. But unfortunately, he’s getting about five yards and a cloud of dust.” That’s not an exaggeration. Hillis’ output has yo-yoed this season, from 28 rushing yards to 184 and two touchdowns, but his yards per carry through eight games is an impressive 4.8. He has scored in every game except one, tied for fifth in the NFL with 48 points. Ryan also noticed in breaking down Cleveland’s past three games that the Browns only had three third-and-long situations, evidence of the effectiveness of their ground-and-pound attack. On the flip side, the Jets are allowing their opponents just 87.4 rushing yards per game, fourth-best in the league, and just 3.3 yards per carry, second-best in the league. Stopping Hillis will be a unique task, as he’s a hybrid tailback-fullback, and has played both positions. He runs downhill, squares his shoulders and “dares you to tackle for four quarters,” linebacker Bart Scott said. He completes a physical Browns offensive cast in which, defensive tackle Trevor Pryce proclaimed, “the only small one’s the quarterback, and everybody else blocks out the sun.” “I think our D-linemen were glad to hear finally the game’s going to be more old school,” defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said. “They call them the ‘Arena’ teams; they get tired of playing ‘Arena Football.’ They want it to be a little more, as we would say, blunt-force trauma.” The Browns often use heavy packages, and their strength is not their 25th-ranked passing game. The Jets’ answer will be to match that personnel, bringing in their bigger bodies and possibly using four down linemen more often. Ryan indicated defensive end Vernon Gholston will see more playing time, matchup driven. Pettine credited the Jets’ tight run defense so far to personnel, sure tackling and scheme. With solid corner play on the outside, he said, they can play with a single-high safety and put eight men in the box. To stay on track this week, the Jets have studied in particular how Hillis gashed the Patriots, just last week, and the Ravens, whose defense is similarly styled to the Jets. “I figured out some weak links, some things that went wrong and what happened,” Scott said. “Try and make sure they don’t happen to us.” One of Hillis’ weaknesses is fumbling. He has lost the ball four times this season, in 133 carries, tied with the Giants’ Ahmad Bradshaw for the most fumbles in the league among running backs. This week, the Jets are preaching swarming the ballcarrier and trying to jar the ball loose. This is the kind of matchup Scott likes to call a “double chin-strap game” — and there will only be one outcome. “It’s what they like to do, against what we pride ourselves on doing,” outside linebacker Jason Taylor said. “At the end of the day, one of those things has to give. We’ll see.”
Ok, it's about 24 hrs to game time I think it's time to end all rational discussion and proceed to talk shit. Fuck Penguin Mangini and the Browns. Rob Ryan ain't shit. Peyton Hillis can eat a dick. Colt McCoy looks like a fag. Chansi is a really gay name.
The Jets vulnerability will be the 5-10 yard passes in the middle of the field and McCoy running. I don't know who will win this game. The Jets should, but that hasn't stopped them from creating drama over the past few weeks.
It also helped Hillis that no one knew who he was going into that game. I said this in another thread, but I think the Lions are so soft they are a "no-chin strap game".
It's all on the line for Mangini here with Holmgren breathing down his neck. 4-5 would mean you got something going here and are gonna be a factor. 3-6 means you're done this year, and maybe out of town when the smoke clears. All based on this game.
Browns fans, how has Haden looked this year? I don't care about stats, because they are meaningless for a CB...but how has he looked just by watching?
idk if that's necessarily the case, by beating SB contenders by wide margins in back to back weeks I think the players are responding well to him. It's obvious they're still rebuilding...unless they lose out I don't see him getting fired
The Browns are not a pushover anymore. They're improving every week. I'm sure Rex knows that and will have the team prepared for a tough game. :jets:
I know many are worried about the Browns, I'm not. I expect the Jets to run the no-huddle offense this week, I expect 28 pts out of the Jets, I expect are defense to totally shutdown the browns running game, I expect McCoy to have a decent game but I dont' belive this game wil be as close as everyone thinks. 28-13 JETS This is the week we wake some people up and on the other side this is the week everyone realizes the Giants are a scam. They will lose the Cowboys, peace
I don't think the Jets will have an easy time with the Browns, no matter how much they prepare. I doubt they will run a no huddle offense for a long time because they like to control the clock. They will probably pepper it in a little though since it worked so well. The Jets just don't have the ability to blow out anyone it seems (excluding the Bills, and I bet they can't do that now either). They will be in a dogfight every week from now on. As long as its a win, I don't care. I will admit the Giants seem to have been playing much better lately, but I didn't realize all of the shitty teams they've played. Looks like the only 2 good teams they've played, they lost (Titans, Colts). I think they are better, but they haven't proved it by beating a good team. If they beat Philly and Green Bay, I'll pay attention. Looks like they have an easy schedule all the way out and they should be a shoe-in for the playoffs.
