    I have never understood this and I still don't, maybe I am just clueless. Could someone please explain to me the point of running a route short of the 1st down marker on 3rd down?

    Idea is that the D will be playing the first down marker, so your man will be open. You have faith in him to make a play and work for the 1st down.

    This is effective when you a) have playmakers and b) don't do it all of the time.

    I'm convinced that Rex must have a hard on for trick plays because I've never seen an NFL team try so many garbage gadget plays. The true sign that you don't believe in the shit you have on your roster.
