Weis kicked a totally different player off the team (Rashon Powers-Neal). Weis loves Mays and Hoyte. Hoyte was the defensive captain and Mays stepped in big finally after three years of not living up to his talent level. I'm sure Weis would have nothing but good things to say about either of them. To be honest, I've never met Hoyte, but I lived a couple doors down from Mays for a couple years and he's a great guy. I never met anyone that thought differently of him.

Jets are also trying out a kid from Rutgers who was the discus guy, not even on the football team. He is 6'2'', 307 pounds, benched 33 reps, and no kidding at all ran a 4.8 40 yard dash at his own personal workout day!!! RU coaches would not let him attend pro day probably because he was not part of team but he is Olympic qualifier potentially for discus, a real beast. I bet he has a chance at the practice squad for DT or Guard ala Brandon Moore.

As a UVA alum, I thought I'd give some insight into Brennan Schmidt. I certainly won't pretend that Schmidt is going to be some kind of pro-bowl diamond in the rough, but whatever position he tries for, he's going to give his absolute all. The guy is tough and loves football. Asked to play along the D-Line, he was productive with a huge motor and all heart.

Just a little inside story to let you know this guy's heart... Brennan suffers from asthma. Before every game he came onto the field, under medical supervision, and did wind sprints until he induced an asmtha attack. I have no idea how it works medically, but apparently, if he got it out of the way, he didn't have to worry about it during the game.

I left tailgaiting early to see it. He would do sprints and then start to go into into an attack. The docs would look after him, but he would always do one more to go into a full-on attack. It was painful to watch. Looked like he was dying.

So whether he gets cut or he makes the practice squad or ends up making the team... he'll definitely give his all.

Just thought I'd say a few words about someone you might not know and might not get to know. Best of luck to him. He's one of my favorite Hoos. (Aside from Brick!)

Edit for a little football info taken from last november's press release:

As per ealier post, this is a great video-close-up of Brennan. It was taken right after Chris Canty got injured and he was asked to be the leader on the 3-4 DL. It's a good piece, regardless if he dresses as a Jet.

    Hope you enjoy.

(Don't know how to link, have to cut and paste. Sorry... I'm retarded).
