move up and go get him. we need a QB badly and it wouldnt cost us much contract wise with the pick we would aquire to take him with. plus start his development early in the rebuild. do what it takes to get smith.
All the same!!! How do you know!!! And what separates any players who play the same position. I can guarantee you that, at the end of their NFL careers, Smith, Nassib and Gleason will not be anywhere near the same. Tell that to the Chargers when they drafted Leaf. Or to the Jets when they got Nagle in the second round instead of Favre. All the same. Unbelievable. Why don't we just have a lottery instead of a draft and you get the player whose name Goodell picks out of a hat. I want to trade up for Smith. The Jets should have taken him at 13 instead of the 12th DL in a row they have drafted.
If the rumors are true, I would only accept a trade up if it's just Tebow going to the Jags, no other picks involved.
This guy is nuts. Take Geno at 13 when no other team thinks he's not worthy of a 1st round pick? Geno will be a BUST. Guaranteed.
I wouldn't be surprised if they traded the 2nd and the Revis pick (which is 99% likely to be a third) to move up - having said that I wouldn't be over the moon for a trade up regardless of what it cost but if there is a view that And saying (as some seem to be here) someone is 100% likely to be a bust because everyone is passing on them is nuts - based on that thinking any QB not taken in the first two or three picks of the draft must be guaranteed to be a bust right? Man Marino must've been a near guaranteed bust - all those teams taking QBs ahead of him and him only 1 pick away from falling into the second round...... I am not for one instant trying to compare Marino or anyone else to any of these QBs just making that point that just because teams passed on a player doesn't mean he is going to suck and there are dozens and dozens of picks every year that prove that point. edit: just to be clear though - I don't want any part of Geno Smith.
Exactly. Geno at one time was projected to be the first player chosen in the draft. Now he may not even be the first player chosen in the 2nd round.
Three things shock me about this thread. First, all year long, ever year, everything that goes wrong on the field is the Jets QB's fault. Yet, nobody ever wants a QB, unless it is a QB who will be available next year. Second, why are all of you football draft geniuses on this board with us idiots who want Smith and not working for an NFL front office or for a major sports network with your immense knowledge and infallibility. Third, that so many of you think the Jets can waive a magic wand and draft a franchise QB next year, no matter where the Jets end up picking and no matter who that QB may be. If its 2014 and the Jets draft a QB anywhere in the first round, SB here we come baby!!! Completely irrational and ignorant. Unbelievable. Why they passed on him at 13 is beyond me and I have feeling it is going to haunt this franchise like the dozens of other missed opportunities over the years. All to draft another DT.
I can only hope this is a smoke screen. It's not that I don't think we need a QB, it's just that I don't believe the Jets should be trading up for anyone given their overall lack of talent. If this is for real, sheesh - seems like Tanny never left.
have nothing against smith, did not want to draft a qb this year. that said, i think his athleticism is very good but 1, accuracy is inconsistence at best. 2, his pocket awareness sucks. 3, foot work sucks. 4, machanics sucks. 5, throws off his back foot way to much. 6, he put up his # against very weak teams. 7, i question his ability to read GOOD defences. murrays # this year 39 td, 10 int, com% 64.9, pass rate 174.8 pass att 10.1 smiths # this year 42 td. int 6, com% 71.1, pass rate 163.0 pass att 7.1 murrays # come against much, much, much better teams and talent.:beer:
