I thought Robinson had some injuries late in pre season, I could be wrong. I know he had several last season, knee, concussion and ankle. He's a local kid , I have seen him play at the HS level and he trained where I do alot of business after getting kicked out of LSU. He has issues off the field and loves to party, even after getting the boot from LSU. Hopefully he can turn it around, at only 22 he has a tremendous opportunity.
I find myself amazed at many of the comments I see in this thread. Various people posted that a 5th was incredibly valuable because you could acquire a talented veteran with a very expensive contract for it. Yes, there are those trades, but those are a salary dump with a minor return. 5th round picks usually don't last in the NFL for long and many of them don't even get out of training camp. In this case, you're getting a young player with starting experience on a cheap rookie contract for a 5th round pick. If you think that there's a chance this kid could become a real player if you coach him up, then this trade is an absolute no brainer. The likelihood that you'll find a starter (or better) in the 5th round is pretty small. I think Mac is a very good talent evaluator and we're seeing it in particular in how many late picks and free agent pickups are having an impact on this team. You shouldn't judge a GM by whether his high draft picks all hit, because virtually no GM's hit all the time on high draft picks and most of the high draft picks are highly scouted and, more or less, consensus choices. The real test of a good GM is can he find value in later rounds and in undrafted free agents and Mac has proven pretty good at that. I think Mac deserves the benefit of the doubt here.
fair points. i didn't quite understand letting marcus williams go for nothing and then spending a 5th on this guy. maybe they think he can eventually replace skrine in the slot, since he has experience at lsu along with adams at safety while he played corner. you need at least two cover corners and three corners to play bowles style of defense.
I think the front office views him as someone who has the skills, size and strength to be a really good press corner. Remember that the 49ers were so impressed with him that they made him, a 2nd year 4th round draft pick, a starting CB. He’s been working through some problems and has been drawing a lot of flags lately, but the jets think they can fix him. Hopefully, they can. With Marcus Williams, their view was that the CBs that made their roster were better and he didn’t show enough potential to be worth a roster slot. If you recall, Williams, was not a good starter. He had a good nose for the ball and could get some interceptions, but there were times he was getting beaten like a drum. He gambled a lot and, sometimes it worked, but often it didn’t. Obviously, they think this kid has more potential.
