It's not about Brunell playing. It's about developing Sanchez into a good quarterback. I'm willing to to take that risk.
Hopefully he will teach Sanchez not to chase plays and celebrate TDs so much, that is a huge waste of energy.
Okay this is like the 5th time this has happened to me today, I need to add a "if post is retarded I am being sarcastic" note in my sig... I was kidding, I love that energy but people complain it about it seriously for some reason.
15comp 29att 51.7% 102yards 3.5 ypa 0 td 1 int @ Carolina Although that was likely with the Saints 2nd and 3rd string players. His last real start 16 31 51.6 132 4.3 0 1 @ Philly 11/12/06 Wasnt exactly a great season for him but he only threw 4 ints over 9 games that year (vs 8 tds) If nothing else I think Brunell helps Sanchez throw less INTS. And for that reason alone hes worth it.
This from the Star ledger: "Brunell spent the 2009 season with the Super Bowl champion Saints. In June, he filed for bankruptcy" That's sort of fucked-up, isn't it? He's bankrupt? The other fucked-up thing is the way it was reported in the article. It was the last sentence. How can any of these idiots be bankrupt with what they're paid - unless he has a divorce pending, then it makes a lot of sense ; ) Amazing.
It was also the topic of several articles in the papers and a few threads on this board last month. It's pretty much common knowledge at this point. Real estate investments that didn't pan out, the answer you would have found if you typed "Mark Brunell" and "bankrupt" into Google.
This obviously tends to indicate that Clemens is a goner. Interesting if that is NOT the case. We know the FO is not too high on Clemens, but I really have no idea about the other two guys and what the FO thinks of them. I guess we find out in the next couple...
I'm fine with the move, Clemons was not the answer. It is good to have a guy who has been there and done that hanging around with Mark. Also, If he helps Ainge develop as well maybe we don't need him next year.
Maybe he is been there done that, but the real question is can he do that...If Sanchez goes down, I have absolutely no reason to believe that Brunell can get us a W. If the speculation is correct on the board we paying him two million dollars to be mentor that we hope does not play. Sillly.
Last year we needed Sanchez to just manage the game because we had the number 1 defense and number 1 rushing attack. Clemens played like shit in Tampa and we still won because of that. Brunnell can more then handle those duties. If we had a quality Veteran QB last year who knows if Sanchez would've even played, he probably would have but....
It's sillier to think that Clemens would do better than Brunell in any situation. It's not even a contest to me as far as who I'd want out there.
This is the one scenario I hope that plays out. If he can polish up Sanchez and get Ainge up to speed, we should be set at our #1 & 2 spots for awhile. Ainge has looked good in pre-season games, the big question is will that carry over to a regular game if called upon.
someone whos been in the league 39 years can really be helpful. least thats what the front page said. 39 year vet.so he must be like 60. damn hes old
What's more fucked up? That we signed a bankrupt QB, that we traded for a WR that is facing a 4 game drug suspension, or that we traded for a corner that needed a pay advance for child support? They are taking chances on a lot of second and third chance players. I think the Brunell pick-up is the least fucked-up part of the three. And if it helps in developing Sanchez' development, I don't see any reason to questioning the Brunell signing. The Jets have their reasons for not only signing this guy but waiting so long to do it.
If we had a quality veteran we would be having this conversation, because I do not think the Jets would have moved up to draft sanchez in the first place. I am not convinced that Brunell was our best option as a back-up for sanchez. I can not recall who was avaiable but there had to be someone on the market that was better.
