Gase's and Williams decision to stick with the 3-4 makes me happy, and is starting to give me some hope for this franchise. While I much prefer the 4-3 D, imo the biggest mistake the Jets have made over the years is not in changing HCs, but when they do change HCs, hiring HCs that change either the offense or defense, or both, so that they're continually starting over. With this decision, the Jets don't have to delay the rebuild, and start over from scratch on D, which should allow them to focus more on offense.
In fairness, you did agree with him in the post just above this one I'm quoting. Your words: "You're right but my job doesn't require me to be in peak physical condition."
You hated the Gase hire so much that you rage quit TGG, supposedly for good. Now you're happy because, of all things, we're sticking with a 3-4 defense?
I like this for two reasons. First, it shows that Williams is willing to work with the pieces that he has, instead of trying to fit 3-4 players into a 4-3 scheme. Second, we have a lot of holes to fill. This would only get worse if we needed to acquire 4-3 players to fit a scheme. I assume he'll work the 4-3 in quite a bit this season, with the 3-4 as the base scheme, with the 4-3 becoming more prevalent in the upcoming years as the team acquires talent suited to that defense.
I feel much better now after seeing the plan in free agency. Still have a gaping hole inside but it looks like they'll get that in the draft. This Quinen Williams seems to fit the bill. Very intriguing prospect from what I've read. I'd like to see them sign Ansah too. And Tanehill.
