Under this uncapped year, you can't sign a player to a contract that increases by > 30%. I.e, if a player made a million last year, their salary in 2011 can't exceed 1.3 million. That's why signing Holmes, Cromartie and Harris is impossible (I guess franchise tag is the exception). Edwards tho made 6.1 million last year, so he can almost 8 million dollars.
This is pretty much right but one caveat-you probably can structure a deal (like the 49ers did with Patrick Willis) if you make a complex long term deal with tons of roster bonuses and a huge signing bonus. This only really works smoothly if you're incredibly confident that you want the player for the long haul, which you might not be with Holmes and Cro.
Yeah, those guys are risky while Willis really isn't. You know Willis isn't gonna get into trouble that's gonna cost the team games while still costing the owner a ton of money. With Holmes, one failed piss test and he loses a whole season's games and salary but I'm pretty sure he still gets all of those roster bonuses.

yeah thats what I noticed too.. Jenks JT and woody are all official, but even though VG was involved in the group nothing has been made official yet.. I have read that the Jets are expected to do it tomorrow or thursday.. maybe VG is looking to take another pay cut, we'd only shave off like 400,000 by cutting him so maybe theres a possibility he'll forfeit that 400K anyway and try to stay.. then it becomes whether he's worth a roster spot..

There's a report out that says the Jets want Jenkins back on a one year, incentive laden contract. I expected this before the season ended. Jason Taylor also said the only coach he will play for in 2011 is Rex Ryan. I honestly wouldn't mind bringing the guy back. If the Jets draft a pass rusher, he'd be incredibly valuable as a mentor. Bringing him back would also mean the end of Bryan fucking Thomas.

Nah i have a different view on VG which is Tanny is afraid if he cuts him Belly picks him up & makes him a super star which will leave even greater egg on Tanny & now Rexy's faces :jets:
