Yeah, Mayor Bloomberg has been pretty adamant about mandatory time for carrying. But IN THE EVENT that Mr. Burress does not have to do time and we decide to take a gamble with him, the rest is simple for Tannenbaum: Give the stupid bastard a contract that basically says "STFU and do nothing but play football and adhere to the rules found in the addendum which is hereby attached and made part of this agreement, otherwise this contract is null and void." Lock his ass up good and proper. He shows up for practices and games and does what he's told or we don't have to pay him.
OK...You said this... Following the incident, the Giants attempted to continue a relationship with Plaxico. The communication with the two broke down, mostly IMO due to Plaxico's immaturity and ego. AND THEN THIS... But if I were the Jets, I'd take a chance on him with a one year deal. And then hopefully he wises up and becomes a mature adult and just plays the game. Now call me crazy, but wouldn't the former maker the latter almost impossible? If he couldn't eat a slice of humble pie after his huge fuck up, and appreciate that his team and team mates were willing to help him through this there is no way he will all of a sudden grow up... Read what you wrote, and then tell me you think he could magically change...
If he wasn't tangled up in legal issues i would say sure give him a try, but then again he might still be with the giants if he didnt have legal issues....
I'm amazed. Flat out, 110% amazed. You seem so reasonable, and yet...HOW WOULD THE LEAGUE LOOK THE OTHER WAY? HE HAD AN ILLEAGAL GUN IN A CROWDED NIGHTCLUB...He's lucky it only hit him. The league doesn't care if NY is in it...The NFL is a cash cow, and no matter who is in the SB the ratings will be insane, as they always are. Goodell wouldn't risk everything else he's done to weed out the retards by letting Plax off scott free...especially because "the league wants NY to win"...
My thoughts on this are simple...the Giants basically won a SB because of this...he was their MVP (maybe not voted but they don't make the playoffs without him 2 years ago). If he doesn't go to jail sign him up.... but it's got to be a contract similar the deal TO signed with Buffalo. The guy is a takeover WR and this team desperately needs a guy with his ability.
Are we not counting 2008 in that not hurting teams on the field thing? I mean, the VaGiants only became impotent in the passing game once he shot himself.
I hear what you're saying. The communication breakdown that I was talking about was between him and the Giants. I think that there was, for whatever reason, bad blood created between the two, following the incident. That bad blood has nothing to do with the Jets. That's between him and the Giants, whether it's his fault or not. And I do believe it is his fault. Concerning him being immature and having too big of an ego, well, NFL players are young guys, many of whom are like that. He may suffer from that a little more than most. Anyway, as I said, regardless of this stuff, I'd give the guy a one year deal with morality clauses, such as the ones others have suggested.
Plax is a great player and could probably help us out a lot. That being said our legal system has to start holding athletes to the same standards as average citizens. I'm glad Bloomberg is playing hardball with Plax, athletes should not be above the law. We shouldn't reward him with a multi-million dollar contract when he should be going to jail. The league's discipine should be only to allow him to sign with the Raiders and have to deal with Al Davis for the rest of his career.
Finally someone with a Brain...........I swear I think everyone here is afraid of talent. If Plax got off this with no jailtime or suspension how could you NOT sign him?!?! I mean seriously he was just the MVP of a superbowl team, hes tall hes fast he has great hands. I DONT GET IT. The same thing happened on here when he was release from PIT, nobody wanted him (or at least a vast majority). What about Boldin?? Oh hes washed up, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I dont get you people sometimes. Maybe your right.....I guess throwing to Cotch and "Blank" is better than Cotch and PLAX. Genius!
Where did I lose my marbles? What I said happens to be true. The entire West Side story, so to speak, was politics. Woody had/has a relationship with the GOP, and Bloomberg and Pataki were vocal supporters. I was at the GOP convention in NYC when all of this was in full effect, having lunch with those closest to Woody who thought the entire thing was a done deal. As well, it was politics when MSG campaigned against it and Sam Silver killed the deal. This is all true. You just have to put 2 and 2 together.
Listen, if there is punishment doled out to Plaxico by the league, maybe it's just two or three games. Like you say, the NFL is a cash cow, and the two New York teams are more than just the cow's udders
If he only had a few years in the league, I would agree...But the fact that this guy is a veteran and has been in the league long enough to know better is what worries me. If he would have zero influence on any other person in the organization, I wouldn't mind bringing him in under the strictest of guidelines....But the fact that he could rub off, even a little, on any of the younger guys on the team is too much of a risk imo.
Your marbles went wayward when you mentioned that Bloomberg and Woody could "see it through". Unless I read into what you said, it seemed like you thought, or implied, that since both men share the same political party and are friendly, that somehow that would help to get Mayor Mike off the "Plax has got to pay" plan. If I misunderstood, then you may indeed still have "most" of your marbles.
Again, if the Giants didn't have him just a couple years ago, they would not have any Super Bowl rings. The guy is that good. The Jets just got rid of their primary receiver. And there's little out there on the WR market. If he's not in prison, it's a win win deal.
Stranger things have happened between strange bedfellows Hey, at least when it comes to Chicago, politics always trumps the law.
It's hard to seem smart when I misspell illegal... I just don't see the league favoring our market. It isn't like baseball where the Yanks are the draw, even in shitty towns like KC (baseball team-wise...) and Tampa...Football is just such a huge deal and is so popular that no matter who is in it, the ratings will be there, and so will the sponsors. Completely off subject, but I'm looking forward to seeing how much ad time goes for during the SB this year...With the way the markets are, and profits posted I wonder if we will see a drop off in ad revenues...And if it has any impact on reg season revenues...
If he doesn't go to jail and can play this season, I personally would take a shot with him (no pun intended)
