We agree in principle, just ironing out the language--

I think we just have a different definition of the word EXPECT. A QB can HOPE every pass they attempt to be completed for a touchdown, but if they EXPECT every pass they attempt to be a TD, they're going to be disappointed. Narrow it down from there-- they can HOPE every pass they attempt in the redzone will be completed for a TD, but if they EXPECT it, they're going to be disappointed. Even something more controllable--say a professional bowler who can get a strike almost every frame shouldn't be surprised when he leaves a pin standing.

There are probably 16 guys per draft who make at least one Pro Bowl, but there are only an average of maybe 3-6 guys with multiple pro bowls out of each draft. Looking at draft history, and knowing what we all know about guys like Trent Richardson, or Todd Marinovich, or Lawrence Phillips, or Jeff George-- any GM has to know better than to EXPECT any player to pan out. All they can do is hope.

Hell, just ask the Colts or the Bucs-- even drafting an amazing player like John Elway or Bo Jackson doesn't guarantee your team anything.

hope / expect all semantics. I do agree on principle. I'm just saying that now GM uses a high pick on a player they think has a 50/50 shot to make it. that's what later picks are for. with maybe QB being an exception since they are so hard to find
