The NYC Olympic bid didn't win and it had nothing to do with the stadium. On the other hand it's clear that the Mayor and Governor used the Jets to put an attractive offer on the table. In return, Woody for a mere 60 million was able to use that leverage to get an incredible deal in NJ, he saved himself at least 500 million and had a perfect excuse to break his pledge to bring the Jets back to NYC. Ultimately the land will be developed and the City and State of NY will get their share of tax revenue from it with a much smaller and less risky investment by both the City and State. The City of NY is doing very well and they collect taxes from the millions of commuters who enter, earn, dine, entertain themselves and shop in the city every day. A stadium in Manhattan is about the biggest economic waste of that real estate I can imagine. Manhattan simply didn't need it and the Mayor proved it by coming up with an alternate plan to site the Olympics in two days. Coincidentally it didn't take Woody very long to come up with an alternate plan that just might make him the owner of one of the highest earning NFL franchises in the NFL. It's not as sweet for Woody as having the MTA hand him one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the World, getting the City and State to put a roof on his stadium and guarantee him events for his stadium. When you try to finance with taxpayer money and taxpayer owned lands politicians representing the people, who will have competing interests, will ultimately have a say in the project. Some people may not like that because you can't always get your way but that's the democratic process when your trying to use public land and public money.
Ahh screw you all the Jets stay at the best location with a new building, and training camp in my back yard. The only bad thing is I have to wait until 2007 to live at camp. Stop whining Jet fans. Let's say that again for the visually impaired or too busy whining. Stop whining Jet fans. Stop whining Jet fans. Stop whining Jet fans. Stop whining Jet fans. We'll stop being second class when you stop acting like it.
Okay sure, I'll just go blame myself for electing Silver, even though I didn't. And I will also just let slip the fact that you took a one-line quote from my post, and twisted it to make your point. And you want to talk about MY anger? Okay buddy. Winston, while your post is fair, and makes good points, I tend to disagree a bit. The city of New York is not doing so well. This talk of an expanding economy is due to factors such as unemployment rates dropping, simply because they can only be calculated for people who are on unemployment insurance, and most of those people have run out of benefits. It is also talked about because the stock market is expanding, however, this is simply rich people recycling their money in investments, quite akin to Reagan's old plan of "trickle-down" economics. It doesn't work the way they say it does. The land out there is still up in the air. Not surprising really. Cablevision was happy to fight the development of competition, but now, you don't hear Dolan crying that he isn't being allowed to build his supposed high-rise do you? And where are the "community groups" supposedly heavily in favor of residential housing now? Hmmm, strange little disappearing act the day the Jets' deal fell through. Let's not say this was a democratic process. As far as I can tell, only 3 people were involved in this decision. 2 city council members, and 1 owner of MSG. But I really don't feel like arguing about this. Disagree if you must. I'm just getting too tired of arguing on TGG about politics, which I have been doing way too often. I want to talk Jets football. Section 227, I was a bit off base with my "not caring" comments. I transferred my anger at the fact that Joisians are celebrating what I consider a theft of my team into another channel, and it was inappropriate. Winston, you know I respect all of your posts, even when I disagree, so I hope there's no hard feelings. Anyway, I'm going back to Jets talk. Later all.
If this is an apology, it's not needed. I fully understand your frustration over this. If fact, I've been trying to be the voice of reason on the Jersey side, calling for guys to not rub it in. As a 12-year old boy and Brooklyn Dodgers fan, it ripped my guts out when they moved to CA. If someone had taken delight in this at the time, I would have been equally enraged. But this is quite much ado about nothing. Really, in the overall scheme of things, not much is changing. In fact, the only thing changing is the location of the Jets' training facility. The Jets will still play football in the same place they've been playing in for 20 years. And they're still the "NY" Jets because we're all one, big suburb of NYC. If that's not the case, try telling some kid from Hoboken he can't root for the Jets because he lives in Jersey. And they're not moving the Jets to LA or anywhere else. We should all breathe a collective sigh of relief for that. Rodney King: "Can't we all just get along?"
Yeah, it was meant as an apology. No hard feelings I hope. Yeah, I hear you. In reality, I am more upset that they are leaving Hofstra than the fact that they are staying in Jersey. In reality, staying put doesn't hurt or help anyone any more than it already was. Moving from Hostra though, hurts that community. Granted, it isn't the poorest neighborhood in the state, but it will still feel the effects. And you make a very good point, at least they aren't moving to LA.
