The AFC went on a run from '99-'05 w/ 5 of 7 road teams winning in the AFC Title game but it's been 5 years since a road team won in the AFC Title game and since 2002 home teams are 6-2 in the AFC Championship game and since 2000 NFC home teams are 7-3 in in the NFC Championship game. It's possible to win on the road, I'd rather take my chances at home.
You can be a 2, 3, or 4 seed and still host a conference Championship Game. There is no "need" to be a 1 seed in today's NFL, and that's the point I was making. Is it easier? Maybe. The Saints were the first #1 seed to win the Super Bowl since the Patriots in 2003 though.
Bringing Coles in would give us killer depth at the wide receiver position. It would also give the Jets the ability, after Holmes comes back, to suit 5 wideouts (including B Smith) and leave to roster stacking to the defensive side of the ball like Ryan wanted to do last season.
He made a couple of garbage receptions, and a fumble, in the Wild Card game and now everyone wants him back and I couldn't agree more with your post. Coles was nothing last year in Cincinnati. They lose Houshmanzadeh and bring him basically to be the replacement and he was garbage.
There's no need to be a 1 seed but the top 2 seeds have done a great job since 2001: 2001: 2 seed defeats 1 seed in SB 2002: 2 seed defeats 1 seed in SB 2003: 1 seed defeats 3 seed in SB 2004: 2 seed defeats 1 seed in SB 2005: 5 seed defeats 1 seed in SB 2006: 3 seed defeats 1 seed in SB 2007: 5 seed defeats 1 seed in SB 2008: 1 seed defeats 4 seed in SB 2009: 1 seed defeats 1 seed in SB A 1 seed has participated in every SB(10 apps) A 2 seed has particpated in 3 SBs 3 seed 2 SBs 4 seed 1 SB 5 seed 2 SBs Your odds are still better being a top seed
I didn't know receivers sucked so much dick- You think with the name receivers they might be into the other side of things.
I've said the same about drafting Golden Tate, but I'll say it again: I want this to happen JUST to see the next David Clowney tweet.
interesting stat. What's scary is if you are the 1 seed, you're going to lose. The 1 seed is 2-8. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
At least the 1 seeds are getting to the SB though, I'll take my chances in the SB as long as we get there.
"On the first day of Jets training camp, 2010, while on his way to the Cortland Sports Complex, the automobile driven by Lavernues Coles was tragically broadsided by a fully-laden cement mixer driven by a fellow teammate, David Clowney. Police are presently investigating the accident, and have refused to comment further."
