who is better for a #3 WR during the first four games? BTW We play every1 in our division in the first four games, and a team the Ravens whom are playoff bound. Would be nice to give the Ravens a loss, and every1 else in our division. The first four games are insanely important. we NEED home field advantage in the playoffs.
Since when do you need home field advantage throughout? That may have been the case in the 1970's, but in today's NFL it is isn't a need to have home field advantage. Hell, Wild Card teams win Super Bowls now. Just winning the division and having 1 home game is good enough. Having home field advantage is nice, but it isn't a need. We have a much, much harder schedule than San Diego and Indianapolis. One of those two will capture the #1 seed, not us.
I'm sure we can find a #3 receiver for four games who could be as serviceable as Coles. His hands are gone, his speed is gone, and he's a concussion risk. We could probably get that out of a UDFA...without the concussion problems.
Yep...the #1 seeds did horribly in the playoffs last year, home field advantage doesn't matter. /sarcasm
I highly doubt we could find a UDFA that could step into this offense and produce like Coles in the #3 spot for 4 weeks. He knows the offense and was still fairly productive last year splitting time at #2/#3 in a new system.
coles back for a fair price would be so awesome, and when holmes comes back, to have cotch, edwards, holmes, and coles, as wr's would be sick!!!
our fan base is ridiculous. if we had a home playoff game you wouldn't be able to hear anything when another teams offense steps onto the field. number one seeds by statistics do alot better in the NFL also.
I'm not saying Coles couldn't do the job, its just his personality in the locker room I don't want. He's a great guy and all, but if we brought him back, he would be that veteran guy we all know and I think we are trying to distance ourselves from the Jets of old. We have new guys who need to step up and take leadership roles, and if we bring in guys like Coles or Mawae like some wanted, it prevents the younger guys from stepping up. Same thing with Faneca, now with him gone Mangold and Ferguson can step up as leaders. Id much rather have Smith, Clowney, Henry, Allison, Woodhead or whoever else is in camp given the opportunity to step up for 4 games. Plus Keller plays slot sometimes and McKnight is an experienced reciever and can split out sometimes. I just think Coles is not the right fit right now and we can get by for 4 games until Holmes is back.
While I agree to a point, they weren't randomly selected number one seeds... both were undefeated through week like 13?
he is asking to come to the Jets. It's not like we are going out and recruiting him. He wouldn't be able to say shit in this locker room. It belongs to Bart Scott/Jenkins/Woody and others. Plus everybody, and himself would know he is coming in because Holmes is out for 4 days. I would pick Coles over Smith, Clowney, Henry, Allison, and Woodhead any day. Especially for just 4 games. None of those players have proven themselves. I would trust Brad Smith over any of the #4 WR's on our roster right now though. Dunno the FO/Coaches will decide I guess. ------------------------------ About home field advantage.. a bye week would be nice. We were banged the hell up last year come playoffs. edit#3: DavidClowney via twitter. thank you jesus. please train mr clown.
Congrats. One year in which both #1 seeds made the Super Bowl. Awesome. You know the last time, prior to last season, both conferences #1 seeds met in the Super Bowl? 1993.
Sure it would be a lot better to be at home, nobody is disputing that, but it is far from a need. Just because two #1 seeds made the Super Bowl this past year doesn't mean you need to be the #1 seed. What about the Super Bowl winners in 2008? 2007? 2006? 2005? etc. Something people like "Jam" just don't quite understand. It is great to have the #1 seed, but you can win without it and that has been proven time and time again.
it's obvious you can win without it, but it's something this team should go for. dominate defense, and playing at home. sounds good. i have noticed though the jets seem to play better on the road, and i heard a few interviews where players on D said they love it on the road. they like to feel unwelcomed, and crash the party.
Definitely it is something to go for and I hope they land it. There are postivies and negatives to being on the home and going on the road. This team can feed off the hate on the road and our passion in the stands at home. There is no doubt they fed off the noise we all were making at the New England and Cincinnati games.
this is the key for me. i know we can and have done well on the road before, but i want to be at a playoffgame for once in my life. the last jet home playoff game was missed by me because it was my first day of college and i had to move in. the jets drubbed the colts 41-0 and i had to sit and watch it in a dorm room like a shithead.
Wouldn't we all. Been too long of a wait for us season ticket holders to have another home playoff game.
