The posts you have made in this thread are so dumb its beyond belief...Do you think John Lynch will retire as a Bronco? Hell no...he has always been and always will be a buc...same goes for alot of players in the NFL...
And I think that would be stupid too. What significance is there in retiring a Jet or Buc? It's plain dumb. Retire with the last team you played for. Disagreeing does not make a thread "dumb." Making that statement on the other hand.... well nevermind.
I agree I shouldn't have said it was dumb and for that I apologize. But I don't understand how you could not want the guy to retire as a Jet...he started his career as a undrafted rookie free agent, he was a phenomonal leader and played his ass off every game for the Jets. He probably could have stayed by taking a pay cut, but that is the business part of the NFL. He may have felt that he deserved more money. Again I shouldn't have said your opinion was dumb...
Apology accepted. I just don't buy into this "retire as a Jet" BS. He's retiring from the NFL. Let's put it this way. He's retiring because he can't play to an NFL level anymore. If he could, would he be retiring a Jet? No. He had a chance to show loyalty to the Jets. He didn't. Nothing wrong with that either, because I'd do the same exact thing (go for more $). I just don't get any pleasure out of someone retiring a jet, or whatever other team I like. I just do not see the significance, and I'm not much for ceremony... I never have been. I graduated #1 in my college class, and didn't even want to attend the ceremony. My dad made me. Ceremonial stuff doesn't do it for me.
Not to cheapen the sacrifices of soldiers by equating their military service to a career in sports, but many people like to be associated at the end of their lives/careers with where they toiled the longest or where they feel they made their mark. That's what Arlington is partly about. Yes, Victor Green was paid a pretty buck to play hard for the Jets. He shouldn't necessarily be commended for that. But I don't think his request to retire as a Jet is a joke or a waste of time. And I would think, from the Jets' perspective, it's not just an acknowledgement to Victor for his days as a Jet. It's also a way from the FO to let current players know that they appreciate players who give a piece of their lives to the organization. I know they get paid a heck of an amount of money to play a game, but players are human and, in the end, they need to feel wanted and appreciated like any of us.
Good post. A football team, its players and its fan base are like a family in one major respect, they both get their greatest solidarity from shared memories. Guys like Victor Green are important to us fans, we have good memories of them. They should stay members of the family.
O'r|_y? -Jets signed him now -It's his last team -So he's retired with the last team he played for! Case Closed! Your arguing with yourself.
Victor Green retiring puts into perspective how fast time has passed. I still remember when my dad took me to my first Jets game and got me a Victor Green jersey. Im only eighteen but he was always one of my favs since the beginning. Ive kind of been spoiled to watch maybe the greatest decade of football of Jets football since 1996.
JetsIn2004: Why do you have to be such a prick about this? Players do this for symbolic purposes. He loved playing for the Jets and most of important of all loves the franchise. He wanted to go out officially as a Jet. It doesn't tarnish the integrity of the Jets, the NFL, Victor Green, or anybody. It's just a feel good way of saying good bye. Calm down and stop being 'that guy' who gets angry over small insignificant matters. I think you're upset about these type of signings because there's no cap figure attached and you can't break it down like you usually do. Why don't you drop the 'Most Knowledgeable Poster' gimmick for this one thread and show your respect for a great Jets player?
nice to see jetsin2004 get put in his place. his sanctimonious horseshit is really unbearable at times. this news brought a smile to anyones face who was a jets fan in the 90s when Green was around, go grind your axe elsewhere.
That's the only reason why him bitching about something like that didn't make any sense...Victor Green was the man. Everybody loved the guy.
Glad to have Victor Green retire a a Jet. Great player who always gave 100%. Hard hitting and made opposing receivers think twice about going over the middle. GREAT VICTOR GREEN MOMENT!!!! Jets vs. Atlanta in 1998- Steve Deberg sets record for oldest QB to start a game, his start ends quckly as Victor Green comes unblocked on a safety blitz and hits Deberg like a train, Deberg fumbles the ball, JEts recover and return it for a TD. Thanks for the Memories, Victor Green #21
"Green also owns the Jets’ all-time single season tackle mark, a record he established in 1996 when he recorded 207 stops" The above statistic shows a sad fact about the Jet defense. When your safety records that many tackles just what does it say about the rest of the defense?
No. I said the LAST TEAM HE PLAYED FOR. Unless we're going to start a new trend and let him suit up for 1 game to play for, the Saints are the last team he played for.
