Kassell is the seventh unrestricted free agent to sign with the Jets this off-season, joining tight end Chris Baker, linebacker Matt Chatham, cornerback Andre Dyson, defensive linemen Kimo von Oelhoffen and Monsanto Pope and wide receiver/kick returner Tim Dwight. The Jets also added veteran quarterback Patrick Ramsey via a trade with the Washington Redskins. Thats a real nice start to the offseason, and were still gonna be adding some top talent when the draft rolls around.
Uhhh definitely yes...thats where most of the pass rush is supposed to come from...like a Mike Vrabel or Willie McGinest.
didn't Vrabel play inside this year, and McGinest was mostly a down lineman who occassionally stood up. At least that's what I thought. Who are the Top Pass Rushing OLB's out there this year? Can Hobson or Barton fill that role?
Do you mean who are the top pass rushing OLB's in the draft? If that is your question... Bobby Carpenter, Thomas Howard, Chad Greenway are all very good at rushing the passer. Manny Lawson has risen up boards because he will have tremendous ability with his size and speed rushing the edge...We need a guy like that IMO.
Great signing and a guy who was alot better for Tennesee than he's gotten credit for. He was always around the ball and was a great tackler. He'll fit in nicely. As for the OLB situation, I think Hobson might be our best blitzer in the LB corp. He doesnt get credit for it b/c it gets overshadowed by his lack of ability in pass coverage, but he is a very good blitzer w/ a decent burst and alot of power in his upper body. I'm not sure what that means in terms of him starting, but from a blitzing standpoint, Hobson is pretty good and should contribute.
Yeah, I meant the draft...sorry about that... Okay so everything I've read about the draft so far this year, there have been a lot of guys rising up the charts. So who are the guys that will get squeezed out? Specifically LB's? I'm pretty sure Greenway and Carpenter will stay in the 1st round. Is Lawson now a definite 1st rounder???
after the impact Demarcus ware and marriman had this year. ill say yes he goes in the 1st rd anywhere after 15. these hybrid guys are becoming a want for 3-4 Defenses
Depending on how things falls the 2 guys that may be around in early round 2 are Carpenter and Howard. Greenway is a top 15 player and Lawson has really jumped up the boards. What needs teams look to address in late round 1 will dictate if a guy like Carpenter is there for us at #36.
This has nothing to do with Hawk. You guys don't get it. They are trying to build depth. It's not about having 22 good players it's about having 55 or whatever that number is. You don't not take Mario Williams because you signed Kimo. And you certainly don't take AJ Hawk off your board if you signed Kassel.
That wouldn't be a good pick at 4...he is going to be good, but... 1- We already have filled up our LB corp pretty well 2- We have much bigger holes 3- There will be better players available... Having said all that you were probably just joking...
Thomas is also going to play OLB on running downs and blitz packages...as long as coaching keeps the opposing OL guessing our front seven is going to have a great year
I would have been very happy with bringing Hawk in with the #4, but this guy seems like a poor man's version. I'm happy with that since all the team had to give up was some $$. This has not been the same ol' Jets in the offseason. Staying away from the high priced has-beens and finding the young unsung potential at nominal cost. This has got to be painful for the beat writers. How much can they say about a Kassell signing, besides the fact they have no idea who Tangini is even looking to sign. You can just about picture the two of them lowering the cones of silence to discuss signings and the draft. Would you believe Mario Williams Chief.
Good solid DEPTH signing, but dosent change our startin set. OLB Barton ILB Vilma ILB Hobson/ Kassell OLB rookie pass rusher (Carpenter, Daryll Tapp, etc) Thats my educated guess
