Fahking West Coast steals all the best Foleys. I think Wright has some major injury baggage? I could swear he pulled in a major award at Texas. I'd wiki it, but I already went there for the Axel pic and I'm lazy.
These are the kind of people we will be signing. Worth a shot and since we cant sign a real sure thing FA its worth taking a risk on a low risk guy like wright.
I completely forgot about this guy until this signing. Rod Wright was considered a first round talent after his junior season, but decided to stay in school. At one point, he was being called a sure-fire top ten pick. He was a hell of a player at Texas: a two time All-American and All-Big 12 selection. Wright had a torn rotator cuff before the draft and that caused him to slip. I was surprised he fell all the way to 7th round though. He didn't play at all as a rookie because of the injury. This could be a diamond in the rough signing. I actually think Wright could end up being a decent rotational linemen in our scheme.
goood move i have no idea who he is but bring some guys that can challenge our players during the offseason!!!
I think this points to the leave no turd unstoned philosophy. He could be training camp fodder or he can develop into a useful lineman. It is certainly worth a shot as there is zero risk to this signing.
Bump. A lot of people have no clue about this signing. If Wright's completely healthy, he could play a pretty big role as a rotational end in 2010. This signing could impact how the team drafts this weekend.
Would you say he's got the potential to be as good as DeVito? I mean, I'd still jump at the chance if Odrick was there--because I think he can be a real impact player, i.e. Ty Warren or Richard Seymour--but if we have faith in Wright, I'd understand waiting on the DL until day 3.
Would be nice to find a rotational guy who can contribute. I'm puzzled as to why they let Douglas walk after such a fine season, maybe they adress DE in the draft. It'd be great if he cried again though because TC is on Hard Knocks this year.
Rod Wright is more physically gifted than Mike DeVito. DeVito wasn't a two time All-American. Neither of the two have any business starting in the NFL, but DeVito's proven himself to be a damn good rotational lineman. That's all I'd like to see from Wright. He's got a small contract - all he has to do is contribute a couple plays a game. Wright just has to stay healthy - he's had shoulder problems since his junior year of college and it's really set him back. I'd like to see Jared Odrick in a Jets' uniform too, but it's highly unlikely. I think he's going to be off the board way before our pick. If the staff has faith in Wright's abilities to back up our defensive ends, then they may hold off on drafting an end early in this draft. They shouldn't pass on a guy like Linval Joseph - he's too damn versatile to pass up.
Basically if this guy proves himself to be worth a damn, the Jets may hold off on drafting an end until next year. 2011's 3-4 defensive end class is fucking ridiculous.
How are they going to determine if he's good enough to hold off on drafting a DE for now when they won't see him in Rex's system until well after the draft?
