No problem. I didn't really mean to include him except to emphasize how many picks they had actually used on RBs
Would like to warn everyone about Grimes, I think he was made great by the system Gary Kubiak uses, a zone blocking scheme, that makes average running back look good, and makes good running backs into all-pros. He used it during the Denver Broncos two super bowls runs and made Terrell Davis into an MVP candidate. Now he made Arian Foster into an all pro. But once the running back goes to another team, like Tatum Bell and Mike Anderson, they suck. The only exemption to this was Clinton Portis.
Knowing this offense they'll be scared to throw him out there until it's too late. Like Greene and Powell. Sick and tired of seeing Greene run to the edge, it just doesn't work.
The issue there, of course, isn't that 4 > 2.8, it's that 2.8 is so bad. One of the major reasons for the Jets lack of progress the last couple of years that sometimes gets overlooked is that Greene seems to be regressing.
How is that a warning about Grimes? Do you have anything specific that you can tell us about Grimes? And not just the system he plays in?
Just talking about the history of Gary Kubiak running backs, his system is different than the Jets. The Jets run a power scheme and they run a zone scheme.
Who cares what system Houston runs. It would be more relevant to know what system or scheme he played in at William and Mary than Houstons'.
Some comments from a Texans forum: "Using that roster spot from Revis I would imagine (although I assume you are pointing to us playing them in a couple weeks). Hopefully we can get him back at some point. They had put a claim on him earlier but it was conditional I believe so the interest has been there." "I've been following the Jets RB situation and Shonn Green has no long speed and looks sluggish and their back ups are expansion quality. Grimes is a definite upgrade. He's gonna get some carries...you can bet on that." ( http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94869 ) I found this interesting ... had not heard we had a conditional claim in on him at the end of the pre-season.
I was watching this YouTube video to check him out, I kept laughing at how many times the dude in the background said "Go Jonathan Go!"
Seems like the fans in Houston aren't thrilled to see him go. Let's see what this kid brings to the table.
Yeah, I've got to say I've really lost faith in Greene being anything more then what he's shown us. We really need to make RB a priority in next years draft or FA.
Not impressed at all. Stand up runner, running straight downhill with no elusiveness and not having to make any cuts. Either that was video of his least impressive runs, or he was the beneficiary of a lot of great blocking and slow defenses.
