I bet you're calling Darren McFadden a "luxury" pick...he would actually provide the youth and depth you are calling for. He'd give us a solid backfield playing along side Jones and Washington. Injuries happen. (I don't think he'll be there when it's our time, but if he is...he'd be hard to pass up.) I hope you don't think taking a wideout is a luxury pick. That's probably the thinnest position on this team right now besides inside linebacker. I trust the front office to do the right thing in the upcoming draft.
I think the biggest thing we've accomplished overall is that we've finally shown we're SERIOUS. With this signing, followed by the earlier ones, this has been one kick-ass week and any other Free Agents contacted by us have got to be saying to themselves... "Hmmm... maybe I've got to talk to these people," as opposed to, "The Jets are calling? Hahahahahaa... What a f*cking joke that team is!"
Also, Another thing I'm not getting is that Thomas Jones will do fine. In his NFL career he's had one good season and your raving in your glory over him. But when we go and sign a free agent who has had one good season your all saying it was horrible. Is it just me or am I missing something?
I think you're right. And no telling what's going to happen with Coles. Carl Banks was on with Joe Beningo the other morning and he said Coles is such a popular force in the lockeroom that the Jets have no choice but to treat him with an lot of respect. In other words, he said, either pay him what he wants or let him travel, but don't f*ck around with him like we did with Kendall. I like Coles, but he can be such a f*cking hard-on sometimes it's pathetic. We're either going to have to give him the longer term he wants (at more money) or let him go elsewhere. If it's the latter, we'll be super-weak at WR.
Sorry, but I will always consider taking a runningback with a top 10 draft pick to be a luxury pick. If the FO sees fit to draft him, then we will see how the season plays out and maybe it will end up being a smart one, but we still have a pretty thin roster on both sides of the ball to be spending a pick on a RB when we traded for a starter at the position last year.
TJ is still unproven though. He's had one good season. and to be honest. We have no game changers. We have nobody that can jack somebody up to get the team and fans into the game. Nobody to break a 30 yard run. I just see all these pickups leading to McFadden. We wouldn't be signing a player with the same position as Ghoulston, for as much as we did just to draft ghoulston and pay more money for the same position.
He has had 3 straight 1000 yard seasons. Yes, only 1 TD this year, but his last 2 seasons before that he has had 15 TDS.
On the surface I would agree. But there is no garauntee that he will be there. I think by beefing up the OL and drafting a FB is a reflection of coach Bill Callahans' desire to run and protect the QB. I think it's more of a statement of commitment to establish the running game no matter who is back there. Mangini wants his guy too. And if that means reaching a little for the top CB or grabbing the top edge rusher he is a little deeper and more flexible. He needs more guys on the defense. He's thin at corner. Leodis McKelvin & Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are starting to climb the board. Across from Revis it's looking good. Calvin and Fat-kins aint the saviors either though valuable in their own right. Goulsten can play behind Pace or can be a bookend across from Pace. He seems athletic enough. BT is a set of fresh legs. On trading picks? Dallas just got rid of Julius. Barber runs out of steam after two or three quarters. They need another back. It's either FA or the draft and Jerry Jones is all about she-she so it's not out of the question. But in all reality if the JETS do draft Mcfadden how could you knock it? I just think they can really beef the defense up considering everything they have done for the offense up to this point.
Did you watch TJ last year attack the line when there was no hole of more than 20 seconds duration? Did you wonder what he would do next when in the second quarter the defense took the cut back away from him. Yet somehow that proud fighting RB kept looking and banging when the crack was right. I dare say, given the defeated OL we put on the field, the TJ got more out of it than most RBs from any era would have. There's a lot of people that jumped all over Shawn Alexander after Hutch left the Seahawks, as if Shawn had just lost his magic. Shawn lost no magic, he lost no step, the offensive line in front of him suddenly became offensive and stopped being able to block anybody. Without Hutch, the line fell apart. People on this thread should take into account that the skill players don't perform in a vacuum. They need the help of their team mates before they can do their thing.
Amen. That is the essence to a running game. The O-line is what makes a great RB. Martin had them here, Tomlinsons O-line goes to the pro bowl every year, so does Peterson's. The Steven Jackson's O-Line when healthy goes too. they all are great RBs, but are made elite due to their great O-line. It all starts up front.
What the fuck? Get off the site, no one here is allowed to understand football. We discuss it here. We don't know it. Pffft. If you're fast enough, all you have to do is keep running back and forth and you'll eventually outrun everyone else! That's how football works, ya know? Jeez there's two of you now? This place is going to hell in a hand basket.
So what?? You have a problem with common sense/football knowledge?????????? Wanna fight about it?????????????????????????????????????? And yes, we multiply like rabbits....
'...With the newly big / mean OL blocking well, the mammoth beast Tony Richardson comes head hunting into the hole, looking for a hapless DB to evicerate...' Should be fun.
T.J. is a proven good solid NFL Runningback he's rushed for over 1200 yards 2 out of the last 3 seasons and over 1000 yards 3 years in a row. 1119 Yards behind a terrible o-line last season this guy has all my faith and he's still only 29 he'll be fine.
Jones was in a down trend in chicago, if we can replace now then why not do it. 2004 Chicago 14 240att 948yds 67.7ypg 4.0ypc 7 tds 2005 Chicago 15 314att 1335yds 89.0ypg 4.3ypc 9 tds 2006 Chicago 16 296att 1210yds 75.6ypg 4.1ypc 6 tds 2007 NY Jets 16 310att 1119yds 69.9ypg 3.6ypc 1 tds Any way, Richardson isn't probably going to see the field for 80 percent of the snaps, so his age should be no problem.
Stats can be very decieving. The Bears were pushing for Cedric Benson to be the starter any chance they could get. TJ had to share carries when his numbers went down. The Bears drafted Cedric Benson in 2005 and he saw limited action and Da Bears named TJ their starter then Benson sprained his MCL. In 2006 Cedric was named starter but could not hold on to the spot due to injury and inconsistency. TJ ran to the superbowl. In 2007, well, TJ served admireably given the line he ran behind. 2008 should be TJ's breakout with the JETS and he should come very close to his 2005 numbers after the addition of pro-bowlers to the o-line. Fantasy owners there is a sleeper pick for you.
