Not looking at it too hard. For once I trust the Jets brain trust on both the concept of getting OL early and often and the talent evaluation end in that regard.
I would be ecstatic with this. This draft is LOADED with WR talent and we could easily get a #1 WR at pick 11. I think we sign one more lineman in free agency. Van Roten or Stefen Wisniewski
I feel like that stronger than Wirfs Lewis McGovern Winters Fanta/edoga Though maybe not,on second thought. I do worry about a rookie on his blind side though so I went with fant .
There will be cap casualties on the OL after the draft. I'd think the Jets might want to leave a slot in their spending plan open for the inevitable 30 year old guard with 2 good years left in the tank who lands on the market June 1st when his cap hit can be spread over 2 years. The Dave Szott/Pete Kendall slot.
The teams don’t have to wait anymore for June 1st. They can release the player now and designate them as a June 1 cut. but you’re right, some good talent will shake loose after the draft .
Yes but unfortunately for us, all of the very good FA talent were @ both OT & Guard position's with this year's group of Centers being overlooked and a below average group overall. Him being the "best of the centers" doesn't mean much. But I'll begin to trust Joe Douglas with our O-Line as he's played the position and I haven't hopefully he knows exactly what to look for, for both Darnold and Bell as I'd absolutely love to see Darnold protected and to see Le'Veon Bell once again run wild.
exactly. Even at his now-elevated contract number Lewis seems more like depth, and personally i won't cry if we punt on Winters. i can also see us drafting IOL in rounds 2-4 to start in near future (though probably not day 1)
Hold on though...McGovern is a great pass blocker, average run blocker. This is a good football player and not just a "best of what's remaining" type guy. AFTER McGovern...when you get to the Skura's and lower of the world that's best of the rest territory
Still going after Greg Van Roten, interior depth would look a lot better. They need to make a call to Jason Peters. Fant should be pushing either spot (RT / LT) for a starting job, but best case is he has the same role he had in Seattle.
I don’t think they gave him 10 mil to be tackle eligible. I think he is penciled in and see how the draft plays out. I think peters is going to be unsigned until after the draft.
He's penciled in for now, but best case for this team is that guy not starting and we have better options. We'll have to see who comes in. I think Peters can still play, could bring stability for a year, but I wonder if JD is even interested.
