Yeah, that's been my take on this. With the personnel they currently have and the ones they expect to leave via free agency next year this was a pick for the future, even moreso as they even said they want him to pack on a bit of muscle.. Now if he's a nobody next season, then I'll be up in arms
As long as he Is a player for us, I don't care. Especially after ARod went down. It's whatever. Nobody was worth taking along the OL by the time we were on the clock, It Is what It Is.
This is why it's a mistake to have ignored offense all these years in favor of defense. There are times when the defense is compromised that the offense has to be able to outshoot the other team. Believing that they can build an "impregnable" defense has long been at the root of the Jets problems. Unless their defense performs against the odds, this is a game where Zach and the offense are going to step up and carry the team, ready or not.
I'd say the draft picks have probably been around a 50/50 spilt between offense and defense the past few years...
In terms of raw numbers maybe, but not in terms of the value of those picks. The Jets have continued to invest more on the defensive side than the offensive side despite a few exceptions.
Are we sure it didn’t happen in the Denver game, rather than in practice? I remember him getting shaken up on a play and looking dazed for a bit on the sideline, with someone checking him out.
Oof. And against possibly the best 1-2 combo of receivers they'll see all year. Hall held up ok last week and at least they'll have Carter in the slot but having both out is huge. And no Echols no less... If Saleh and Ulbrich can scheme up something to keep the defense competitive it'll be impressive. I would imagine their strategy will need to be adjusted. But I'm not expecting much. The guy starting is a practice squad call up... Hopefully Reed and Sauce will both be comfortably ready with the bye on deck
1ST 6 PICKS 2020: O, O, D, O, D, D, 2021: O, O, O, O, D, D 2022: D, O, D, O, O, O 2023: D, O, O, O, D, D
100% false since Douglas has taken over he's had 11 picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds. 8 of them have been on offense
2023: D O O O D D O 2022: D O D O O O D 2021: O O O O D D D D D D 2020: O O D D O O O D S 2019: D D O O D D 2018: O D O D D O 2017: D D O O O D O D D 2016: D O D D O S O 2015: D O D O O D 2014: D O D O O O D D O D O D Last 10 drafts: 7 out of 10 first picks were on "D". In 2022 2 of the 3 1st rounders, including the #1 were on "D". 79 total picks: 36 on "D".; 38 on "O; 2 on Special Team. Only counting the top 4 picks each year: 17 on "D; 23 on "O". Going by the last stat, things lean slightly towards the offense in pure number of picks, but that doesn't give any weight to the relative value of those picks in a given year. For example, taking a Safety when a good QB prospect is available and you need a QB. Or taking a CB when you need a T, or taking a LB/DE when you need a T (or at least another OL). And yes that view cuts both ways, but the point remains that simply going by raw numbers doesn't give the full picture, as usual.
His offensive picks have sucked more but clearly he’s wasted plenty of resources on that side of the ball
What? Mekhi Becton Denzel Mims La'Mical Perine James Morgan Cam Clark Zach Wilson AVT Elijah Moore Michael Carter Garret Wilson Breece Hall Jeremy Ruckert Max Mitchell Joe Tippmann Carter Warren Izzy Abanikanda Zach Kuntz Joe Douglas has drafted more offensive players since he has been here, than defense. He has drafted CB's, he has brought In CB's, It's just very unlucky that we have so many injuries at the position right now. This argument Isn't accurate though about neglecting the offense.
If by some miracle we win, I will never let them hear the end of it. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk
Concussion injuries are not exactly injuries in the same way. NFL is being super cautious in this era.
I don’t think anyone from 2018 and earlier is on this roster anymore. Maybe even 2019. Yes, everyone’s agreed that the expenditure of draft picks by the Jets over 20 years skewed heavily to defense and was a big reason why the offenses sucked. But we’ve spent a bunch on offense the past couple years so I don’t really know what you’re getting at. You prove every one else’s point by posting the side of the ball picks from 2020 to now.
I don't know what happened, Sauce says he is fine, but sometimes you have to protect these guys from themselves. Initially it was reported as illness. Again, not sure what happened, but if Sauce did have sickness symptoms on Friday, like vomiting, etc, because of a head shot in practice, there is no way he should be playing Sunday.
