Perhaps Rex & Co will be able to turn him into an undersized (albeit situational) pass rusher in the mold of the Colts DEs, Mathis and Freeney. I know its a long shot but I can dream, can't I?

As long as he becomes something useful, I'm cool with it. The people who are hoping that he'll live up to 1st round potential are getting their hopes inflated.

That strip sack was a beautiful play, but he beat a 3rd string tackle. That being said, it might be enough for him to make the team.

And until Gholston shines with daBears, that quote it's still true.
Hopefully Maybin can do it for this team.

Dwight Freeney's not undersized, but the point is certainly true for Mathis. He doesn't have much on Maybin. Maybin will never be an every down player, but we're all hoping he can be useful in certain situations for the first time in his career.

Not sure if this is 100% relevant, but I cooked a tortilla this morning and the face of Maybin appeared on it. But it also kind of resembles Terelle Pryor.

I don't know what I was thinking. I stand humbly corrected.

maybe this guy has the speed and ability to be one of those tween LB's that Rex likes to rush on the edges and drop back in coverage. He's got more than enough speed, it's the passion and brains that will come into play. Don't know if this guy has either.

This guy still has a really long way to go. I don't think it's worth it to have this kind of debate over him unless he makes the 53.

Just finished watching the 2nd preseason game, Maybin has a burst off the line that is unreal, that first step to the QB is lightning quick. If he can keep his weight up along with learn how to play the game we really might have something in this guy.

Well, he lacks ideal height, so people frequently label him undersized. It's pretty common. Mathis is built more like a 4-3 OLB than a DE. Either way, like I said it was a good point.

Rex Ryan says Aaron Maybin is "going to have to do more" to make the team.

More Rex Ryan on Aaron Maybin: "I think he can play in this league. We'll see if he can play for us."

Maybin has a great 1st step. So, I am not sure why coaches, both Jets and Bills, have not been able to get much out of him. Gholston had nothing that anyone could work for. He was drafted because Tanny didn't want Belichick to get him (not sure why that scares GM's since he sucks at drafting), and showed nothing.

Maybin shows flashes. And, I actually think he can be a productive player if given a chance in this scheme based on what I have seen. However, if Rex ultimately cuts him, that basically says everything you need to know about him as a player...

Gholston was drafted because Eric Mangini is a moron

I think it's a lack of strength. He is fast and he has actually looked pretty good but he can't get around or through anybody.

Eh, it wasn't all on Mangini. Tanny liked him a lot too. And there was a lot of talk that the Jets took him because Belichick was really looking hard at him at a few picks after the Jets. That clearly was the deciding factor for Mangini, but should not have been for Tanny.

And it didn't matter what Mangini thought, Johnson has said 100 times that all personnel decisions are made by Tannenbaum and that is still the case. Rex references that a lot.
