Yeah, this isn't even close to being true, either. The Lions have attempted 5 more passes over 10 yards than the Jets have this season. The Lions short passing game is their running game.
McNabb's accuracy was always below 60% before the Eagles got Owens, and that's when they had Westbrook. He hadn't had a single season at or above 60 percent before Owens' arrival. The ONE full year Owens played with McNabb, his completion percentage rose to his career high of 64%. As soon as the Eagles lost Owens, McNabb's accuracy dropped off to his career levels of 57-59 percent.
In McNabb's two best years in regards to comp%, Westbrook caught 163 passes on 207 targets. Westbrook in '04: 73 catches, 87 targets Owens in '04: 77 catches, 127 targets Westbrook in '07: 90 catches, 120 targets Curtis in '07: 77 catches, 136 targets If Westbrook had the same catch rate in '07 as he did in '04, which is only 11 more catches, McNabb's comp% is roughly 64%.
I don't see your point. I'm saying Owens had an effect on McNabb's completion percentage(+7% from previous season), helping take it to 64% in his only full season there. McNabb is a career 59% guy, and had never hit 60 or above before Owens. Without Owens, McNabb doesn't hit 64% for that season. Owens covered up McNabb's accuracy problems, but truth is, you could watch the games and still see he was not an accurate QB, it just helped having the best receiver in the game. Going even further, McNabb wasn't a 30 TD QB, but he went 31 and 8 with Owens. That's what a top receiver can do for your offense, and for your QB. Owens raised McNabb's stats all across the board. Career best in TD's, career best in INT's(when playing full season), career best in completion percentage and career best in QB Rating(only season at or above 100). Made the dude into an MVP candidate. McNabb's Eagles went to the NFC Championship game 3 years in a row, and it wasn't until they went out and got a top receiver did they get over the top. Sound familiar? They stopped fu***** around with second-rate receivers and went out and got some real talent.
Except TO was hurt during the playoffs the year they actually made the Super Bowl and had nothing to do with them getting any further then they did the previous two years.
I wouldnt get too excited about the Manning prospect because at the moment it doesnt seem more than 50:50 that the colts are even going to have the #1 pick given their recent performances. The Rams are almost certain to lose to the niners who still have a lot to play for (I think) in terms of seedings so the colts have to lose their last game and are playing the Jags who suck (shit, even we beat them handily - what heady days those were).
Owens helped get them home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Their record with him was 13-1, and he turned in a hell of a performance in the Super Bowl coming off that injury. What sucked for the Eagles was that McNabb was a wreck in the Super Bowl and they only lost by 3.
