The Jets aren't going to do this. The Broncos offense in the red zone was terrible last season. They ranked in the bottom third of the NFL. The Jets offense is starting to remind me of the 2005 group in some strangely dissimilar ways. The 2005 Jets had an egg back there at QB and they chose to go get an egg back there to back him up. This meant that if #1 went down the odds were reasonable that #2 would go down also causing issues with an untalented #3 QB at the reins. The 2012 Jets have a young inconsistent streaky QB with a bad completion percentage back there and they have chosen to go get a young inconsistent QB with a bad completion percentage to back him up. This means that if #1 fails on performance issues the odds are reasonable that #2 will also fail on performance issues which would leave us with an untalented #3 QB at the reins. The 2005 Jets had a formerly great RB at the end of his career struggling with nagging injuries and a subpar offensive line that disintegrated over the course of the season. The 2012 Jets will have a hopefully great RB who has struggled with nagging injuries his whole career and who saw the offensive line deteriorate in front of him last year with no changes made going into 2012. The 2005 Jets had a receiving TE they hoped would break out and become a major star in their system. The 2012 Jets have a receiving TE they hope will break out and become a major star in their system. The 2005 Jets had a young flier they'd just acquired to stretch the field and they advertised his speed as a game-changing factor in the offense. The 2012 Jets have two young fliers they've just acquired to stretch the field and they're advertizing their speed as a game-changing factor in the offense. The 2005 Jets had questions at both kicker and punter and wound up replacing both before the season. The 2012 Jets are in flux with their kicking and punting jobs going into camp. I'm hoping Sanchez is up to the job this year because if he isn't I don't think 8-8 is where the resulting collapse lands.
The quote says "In the Red Zone" not "Exclusively in the Red Zone" so what we are all saying and hoping for is probably what this means. Inside the five is "(With)In the Red Zone" but this quote doesn't mean Sanchez won't also play when they are in the "Red Zone." It only means we'll see Tebow when they are inside of the 20, which probably really means goal line.
^^This^^ It's pretty simple really, if Sanchez can drive down the field and score TD's, Tebow will have a sore ass come December, if not than Tebow will see a lot of game time. If we're putting up 45 total yards at half time again, expect to see a lot of Tebow.
In 1976 Lou Holtz's plan was to use Joe Namath between the 20s and bring in mobile rookie Richard Todd to run the veer offense in the red zone. Team went 3-11, Holtz resigned before the last game. For what that's worth.
True, much larger. Looking back 1977 was the set-up for a good run but we didn't know it at the time.
Here's a non-Red Zone use where Sanchez isn't losing playing time. Imagine Tebow being taught to "pooch" punt, then lining up as our punter anytime we're in a punting situation deep in our opponents territory. In other punt formations, he's the 'up" man. Opposing D's never know when we're punting or going for it if it's 4th and 5, especially near midfield where statistics say we go for it most of the time. We all hate seeing a short punt roll into the end zone. I'd prefer to see Tebow gain 4 and not make it on 4th and 5 from their 40 than to net 10 yards. Hey, I can dream can't I?
2004 was the first year Fiedler didn't play double digit games in Miami. It was a smart signing, it just didn't work out. Curtis martin was coming off a 1600 yd season whree he led the NFL in rushing, he didn't have a nagging injury until he had the knee injury in week 2. No one thought Jolley would become a "major star". Jolley's career high in recs was 32 prior to 2005 and his career high Tds was 2, last year alone Keller had 65 recs and 5 TDs. who was the young flier they acquired in 2005? The Jets used a 2nd rd pick in 2005 on a K. we always have issues at P. There's really not much comparison btw '05 and now.
This is probably true. Rex has a smaller wasteline than me now, and we know what happened when Mangini lost weight. The Jets are screwed!!!
I could see this story as either completely made up or disinformation by the team. As others have said, it doesn't make sense to replace a QB highly efficient in the red zone with one who isn't. I could see Tebow come in with Sanchez on some of those plays to draw defense confusion but not to let Tebow fly the offense solo the last twenty. I could see some interesting drives where both Sanchez and Tebow are on the field together and they could drive to the endzone in a no-huddle situation with different combinations of Sanchez snaps, Tebow wildcat snaps and various option plays on them. If Tebow was instructed to bulk up this offseason, then he could play dual roles as wildcat QB and blocker without sacrificing either on the field at the same time.
I hope for the Jets' sake you're right. I'm a diehard Tebow fan and even I don't think it's a great idea if they really do just pull Sanchez whenever the Jets reach the 20 yd line.
Ridiculous and probably false. Getting the TD is the reward a QB gets for driving down the field. You don't just take that away from him, and if this happens to Sanchez whenever we get inside the 20, I will lose faith in Rex and this organization. This is why a team cannot function with 2 starting QBs. Tebow is a backup and should play as such. Getting snaps inside the 5 is okay, but EVERY time inside the 20 is just asinine.
And by the way, Sanchez is not just good inside the redzone but he is ALSO a very good running QB inside the 5. Look at how many running TDs he got this year.
The more these types BS hit the media, the better - only if other DCs have to waste their time preparing for Tebow and spread option plays. In other words, it just does not matter at the end of the day. Unless Jets actually DO implement some Tebow package inside 5 AND run it with any sort of consistency, (you know this is not happening.) the opposing defensive coordinators are not losing any sleep over it. I would prepare for Sanchez inside 20 mostly, if at all.
