I think that Rex might be using this year to evaluate the talent on the offensive side of the ball. His thinking must have been Coles is not a part of his long range plans so lets create a win win situation for both parties. I think he want to find out if we have somebody who can at least be as good.

Hopefully Clowney and the guy we draft can fill the bill. I have a feeling a Wr will be taken with one of the first three picks. Prob 2nd or 3rd round. I have a feeling Cb will be the first area addressed.

Maybe. Rex has been here one month, most of us have been watching the Jets for years and already know we don't have anyone else as good as Coles right now. If the reports are true that Coles wanted more guaranteed money or out I understand the move, he could be one hit from being done, I'm not disputing that. I just don't get the "good riddance" nature of the fans considering how good he was here for how long.

I think he was overrated by Jet fans. The rest of the league knew there was no real threat there. Only Jet fans thought Coles was great. He was good....it would be a hard sell to call him great though. He made some nice catches and some really piss-poor drops. The fact that he was consistently "misunderstood" and "quoted out of context" is another turn off. He's middle of the pack....no need to be so "quoted out of context"

I don't really care about his quotes or any of that stuff. Think of just about any big play to the end zone or a deep ball and it's usually been Coles at the receiving end of it for a long time. I'm not saying he's great or even putting him in the Pro Bowl, but in the context of who we have he was our best WR. Again, even with him WR was a pretty big need, now it's an even bigger one.

He was no Wayne Chrebret sir! That guy was clutch, man. But that's it - he was a good middle of the road guy.

Im sure Rex is aware that Coles is our best Receiver. I think Rex might have come to the conclusion that our team needs to get younger on both sides of the ball to have a legit shot at a title and Coles is a move he felt he had to make. I think the good riddance attitude towards him is not warranted because he gave everything he had while he was here.

Chrebet was clutch and was even more overrated by Jet Fans than Coles. And I liked both of them.

Definitely. I loved Chrebet, still have a #80 jersey, but he is badly overrated by Jet fans. Coles if anything isn't getting his due here, in my opinion. For the most part we thought he was good and tough because he was good and tough.

At this point I hope I will have the need to purchase a Clowney or Stuckey Jersey one day. I just hope Coles goes someplace where he has a chance to get a ring next year.

The funnny thing was that Coles owned the fish. How much other teams feared him, though, is another question. Maybe some years ago, but I doubt much of late.

Not a true #1. But he will have to be replaced.

I was hopeful the Jets might use a high pick on a BWRA (heh) basis, along with getting a CB, but Coles leaving, I dunno, do we want to count on getting a rookie who will start? I don't feel the warm and fuzzies about starting anyone other than Cotch from the present roster. At least not counting on doing so.

That would tend to lead to picking up a vet wideout...

I was happy for him, that was the lone bright spot to Miami winning the division but no I didn't root for him b/c that hurt the Jets.

Coles was MUCH better than Chrebet.

I think our coach might be using this year to evaluate our talent. If he does not sign a vet of High Caliber that is the proof of it because he has to realize Coles was the best we had. He prob we knows we have to get younger and better to compete with the big boys.

Hell no. Wayne was Mr. Clutch. Coles has been Mr Hopeful

    Wayne Chrebet

    PRO

Ranks second in franchise history with 580 receptions behind Don Maynard's 627 receptions from 1960-72.

Ranks third in team annals with 7,365 receiving yards behind Maynard (11,732) and Wesley Walker (8,306).

Ranks eighth in franchise history with 41 touchdowns.

Longest career streak of at least one reception was 52 games, from the final game in 1997 through Game 9 of the 2001 season.

Registered at least one reception in 148 of the 158 regular-season and postseason games he appeared in.

Caught 337 passes that made first downs and 126 passes that converted third downs in his career.

Recorded his 500th career reception against the Chicago Bears on 12/15/02.

Nine touchdown receptions in 2002 were a career high.

His 1,083 yards, on 75 receptions, in 1998 was the only 1,000-yard season of his career.

Established the NFL mark for most receptions by a player during his first two seasons in the league with 150 and his 208 catches over the course of his first three seasons were the sixth-most by anyone during their first three years in the NFL.

Has started five postseason games and made 19 catches for 269 yards (14.2 avg.) and two touchdowns.

There's a huge difference, that's what a lot of people here either refuse to get or are too stupid to get.

I'm with Junc on this. I love Chrebet, but in their prime I'd take Coles over him any day.

Yes there is. Is there something wrong with being happy for a former long-time Jet?
