How is our rebuild ahead of schedule? Our best players on defense this year have been DeMario Davis and Morris Claiborne-both free agents Our best players on offense have been Josh McCown and Jermaine Kearse. I'd agree that Maye and Adams will be two building blocks at safety, but you can't win anything with Josh McCown.
The issue with Cousins is that he will be the highest paid player in the league. The Jets have way too many holes allocate that much of the cap to Cousins.
I see what you're saying.......the Jets are between a rock and a hard place in regards to finding that QB for this " rebuild ".......on one hand the cost Cousins would incur....on the other hand do they find one in the draft and I'm not talking another fourth round project..........
it's easier to fill other holes in the draft. sign cousins and there are still 4 picks in the top 100 to add some young talent. maybe more if we were to trade down on the 1st. secure a good qb and then will worry about the rest of the roster
I don't understand people's fascination with Cousins. He'll be super overpriced. He's put up decent overall numbers but he can't win a big game.
Yup. I'm a poster that goes by what I see. I don't come on here after reading trash and not seeing what actually happens, like many here. I've prolly seen every play he's been in, except the Giants game. I also watched him at the combine and in College a little. I even advocated drafting him before the draft, was met with doubt, and was happy we drafted him. But I'm not in the room with him and the OC. And what they've done in the last five weeks does nothing to lead me to a definite conclusion about Bowles, or the OC, what they're long term view is, or Petty. Maybe we'll see him this year? Then we'll all see what he can do. Why?
Nothing. If anything, he did show some growth in mental part of the game - and it was clearly visible between that one year. Maybe he wasn't doing everything right, but he was still doing a lot of good things this year before injury bit him. He almost looked NFL-ready in the Giants game. If that's not good enough, I don't know what to say.
He may be the highest payed qb but it will give us a leader that makes players around him better, it will let us use our #1 pick on another position of need and we won't have another year of grooming a drafted qb and I think the jets can afford him with 80mil + or even 100mil if we let Wilkerson go. If we're going to spend money let's start with a qb that is a plug and play qb from day 1.
I don't know if it's a fascination...I know he's a good QB. Yeah he'll be overpriced as most FA QBs are.......I don't recall him being in a big game off the top of my head. The Redskins are a average to below average team and I think having Cousins as the QB makes them above average.... I would rather them take a chance with him rather than an unknown like Garoppolo...... Of course in a perfect world the Jets would have the QB of their choice slide right to wherever they are picking in April. I don't see that happening and I'm not even sure I trust their scouting dept to make the right choice citing their history with drafting QBs. If the Jets were to sign Cousins and surround him with talent from their draft picks it could work in theory.......
My Guess is Petty will start after the bye week and we are 4 &7. With 5 games to go. Even though they will be tough games we can still judge Petty by his play and not wins & losses.

Maybe we'll see him yet, or he's at least in their long term view, and they want to give him a little more time with Morton. Do fans think they know better than Morton and Bowles here or can we wait and see how it plays out? C'mon, obviously they have their reasons. The notion that they don't understand the concept of playing Petty to see what he really is by fans is pretty funny actually. Any Coach that would be happy by that McCown INT would truly have to be masochist and a sadist. It gave me nightmares Lmao
I'd rather do what the Eagles and Rams did and trade premium picks for a young QB, and then use cap space to put a good defense and weapons around him. With that said I think the point is moot as Cousins will either be in Washington or San Francisco next year.
Ah - Okay. I guess I'm on the same boat after all. I am not bothered that Petty is not getting any playing time so far. I'd be pissed if they go get a pricey FA QB. [That's a disaster written all over it. Drew Brees is about the only FA QB acquisition that turned into good signing in recent memory.]
If they were adjusting we would not see teams continue to shift. Really good hitters generally spray the ball anyways so they don't have this problem to begin with. As I said, shifting has literally derailed some careers. It's mind blowing that professional hitters cannot make adjustments at all, but they really don't.
Cousins is 29 years old. He really has at least 6 or so good years left at least in him if he avoids injury. How are you getting Garappolo for cheap? It's mind numbing that Jets fans do not want a legitimate franchise quarterback. As if the money is coming out of their fricken paychecks to pay him. We're at least a 9-7/10-6 team with Cousins. Good quarterbacks mask the deficiencies of the rest of the team. They will ALWAYS keep your team in that 6-10 to 9-7 range regardless of the roster around them. Stafford is better than Cousins obviously but he won 9 games last year with his leading rusher having 340 yards last year.
I get it I really do... I mean it sucks. Since 2009 the following QBs have started games: Sanchez Brunell McElroy Smith Vick Fitzpatrick Petty McCown However signing Cousins isn't the answer. He's not good enough to carry a team by himself and at the price he would cost we would need him to.
He's been carrying a team the past 3 years... You just listed 8 reasons why Cousins should be in play for us next season.
You forgot the most important part. The removal of Bowles from this team. No rebuild or overhaul or moving forward will be successful if I have to watch more WR's running open, ZERO pass rush, ZERO sacks by a defensive line featuring all #1 draft picks, tiny, puny linebackers getting run over by runningbacks and Buster Skrine and Claiborne having penalty flag thrown on every pass play. Also no to McCown coming back next year no rebuild should have a 38 year old bum starting at QB. I would rather lose with a prospective young QB just to gauge how he looks in a real game and whether we need another QB in the draft.
