Oh yeah, I completely forgot that all of our rookies are automatic busts if they don't play lights out in their rookie year. Milliner isn't shutting down his receiver each week, what a bust!!!
As I said, us old timers' memories are too long with too little to appreciate. My first game was at the Polo Grounds and my season tickets were at Shea. A lot of you guys are happy with just getting to the playoffs - one and done just doesn't get me the warm and fuzzies. I'm too tired to look it all up, but I'd be interested to see exactly how many times the Jets have done better.
So I lied. I'm tired but I got my curiosity up and began to think maybe I'm just becoming a curmudgeon. Nope. Only seven times in the last 44 years have the Jets gone beyond the first round. That's kind of like walking uphill to school in the snow for a long, long time. Come on, spin doctors, tell me how good that is.
I share your pain brother. While I don't go as far back as the Polo grounds I've been a season ticket holder since the 1980 season and have had enough disappointment to last me a lifetime. It would be nice to build a team that can compete every year instead of just getting a toe in the water and then nothing for years. It kinda wears you down.
Yes, but 5 of those times have come in the last 15 years. Go figure out how many NFL teams have gone beyond the 1st round of the playoffs over the last 15 years and then compare them to the Jets. We've done it 4 times in the last 11 years.
I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the Falcons last night. They seem to be heading where we're heading- I thought they were going to be contenders for a decade straight. _
Important games this week as far as playoff positioning is concerned...despite the season far from over I truly believe this weekends game is a must win for us but we need other things to happen as well 1. Jets over Ravens...no explanation needed 2. Browns over Steelers...both at 4-6, the loss to the steelers earlier in the year hurts, we still play the browns 3. Broncos over Patriots...a win for us and a pats loss puts us only 1 game back in the afc east....hey you never know 4. Chiefs over Chargers...chargers at 4-6 need to lose a few more 5. Panthers over Dolphins....dolphins at 5-5, it would be nice to see them take another loss but we still control our own destiny against them as we still have them twice on our schedule 6. Raiders over Titans....the loss to the titans earlier in the year stings and we still play the raiders in a few weeks Let's go! We can do this! But I'll feel a lot better about our chances if we can somehow go into Baltimore and get the win!
That is the perfect cheat sheet for this weekends games. Every one, well done. And they all look actually doable. Gotta beat Baltimore, if not we're going to be in a morass because we can't expect that perfect storm from 2 weeks ago to happen again. _
I feel the parallels of the 2009 Jets and 2011 Jets. This team is like the ugly re-produced child of those two "parents" that has a chance to become a late bloomer. Will they fight back or collapse? Stayed tuned.
“He was still too young to know that the heart's memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good, and that thanks to this artifice we manage to endure the burden of the past.” ― Gabriel Garcí*a Márquez, Love in the Time of Cholera
^ Exactly this. But the facts just don't seem to matter with so much of the older fan base (which I am a part of). The time to whine and complain about being a terrible football team was from 1987-1996. Not lately. The last 16 seasons: Ten winning seasons Two 8-8 seasons Four losing seasons ... and never two in a row. Take a look at how many teams have stacked one losing season on top of another. For example ... the 49er's had 6 losing seasons in a row ... and 7 out of 8 until they finally turned the corner in 2011. 7 playoff appearances 3 AFCCG appearances We've been pretty good. Not great ... but certainly pretty good. This "woe is us" chorus just doesn't line up with the results.
Despite todays outcomes, the Jets will still be right in the thick of things. Next week will be big though with the Ravens-Steelers playing and Jets-Phins.
Umm if we are all 5-6 we are still in the pack? Sure the tiebreakers will be lost but its still far from over with 5 games left. We were in a worse position in 2009, just sayin. None of us like what we are seeing but the record says we still have a chance despite the poor play.
I'm not Joe Namath but I guarantee this team doesn't make the playoffs. There is no righting the ship with that piece of shit behind center.
