I agree and I think the running game will take pressure off the QB and D's will actually have to respect our running game and it will opne things up for the passing game.
I have feeling and hope that we will host a number of runningbacks in 2008, including Chatman and Musa Smith. Smith and Chatman are both bruisers, they are the kid of LOS presence that makes linebackers flinch and safeties hesitate. The kind of RB presence we lacked when such mediocre guys as Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston departed. Neither of those guys truly scared opposing defenses, but when you make them hesitate, you gain an advantage. Sometimes it's from a play fake, sometimes it's a cutback, sometimes it's just a late-game goal-line situation, but a split second is enough in a game thta is played at such a high level. I think both or either Smith/Chatman make very suitable and superior replacements to Barlow and Houston.
Tiger had serious knee surgery -- to a golfer, this can be just as devastating as a shoulder surgery. But that's just mechanics, and has nothing to do with performance, eh?
In 06 he reworked his mechanics and early in the season it really worked. He was playing great and making throws that I had never seen him really make before. Problem is, it's tough to change what you've done your whole life and as the season went on he reverted back to his old arm throwing. If he can throw as good as he did in the beginning of 06, and continue to throw that way all year, he's our QB now and for the next few years. It's hard to see that happening though, at this point he probably is what he is.
You're right, I forgot about that. He had surgery in April, although he has been changing his swing for years, I guess that is somehow relevant. I wonder if the surgery will take all of his power away and he will take 5 years to recover from it...
LOL how can you (not you directly abyz) compare arthroscopic knee surgery to 2 shoulder rebuilds...............LMAO, come on, surely there has to be a better comparison than that.
We heard the same nonsense in 2006 Link: Pennington Working on Mechanics Posted on June 7th, 2008 by Bassett For those who have been fixated on Chad Pennington?s errant throws this spring, it seems someone from the press had the bright idea to ask questions on which the QB (and fellow teammates) aren?t ball-gagged. So what?s up with the technique Pennington? Here?s some compiled quotes from a rather excellent Sporting News article. ?The biggest point of emphasis for me right now is I?m changing mechanical issues with my throwing motion,? Pennington said after a Thursday morning workout. ?I really went back and studied it, and I want to really focus on it to where I gain more consistency with my throws, be more consistent with the velocity and really take it to the next level.? ?Changing the ball placement, how I?m holding the ball, would be No. 1,? he said. ?No. 2, I?m changing the actual motion and trying to incorporate more of a torque and twisting action with my upper body to where I can really incorporate my hips more. ?I want to be more compact with the throw and not be an all-arm thrower. When you?re an all-arm thrower, you lose that consistency because some days you have it and some days you don?t. If you really rely on your hips and your core and get a torque with the throw, that creates consistency, no matter what your arm feels like.? ?I?ve still got work to do,? he said of his new motion. ?It?s one thing to do it against air when you are by yourself and honed in on it. But when you have the reads and the footwork, and 22 guys on the field, your body tends to revert back to the old way.? This might stand to reason on why in the recent OTAs he was having trouble hitting uncovered targets in passing drills ? he?s working out the hitch in his throw, and it obviously feels different to him. Color me dubious, as Pennington has uttered similar words during the spring/summer of 2006, when he was coming back off his second shoulder rehab, and talked about using his hips more to generate power. I can?t say that I saw a marked improvement on the speed of his passes, maybe if anything they had equal velocity to his passes before shoulder sugery.
arthroscopic knee surgery does not equate to two shoulder surgeries. Two back surgeries near the spine = two rotator cuff surgeries for a QB. See how fucked Tiger would be?
Penny's making more excuses for himself. And promising to "take it to the next level." Most people, when they say take it to the next level, they mean a level of improvement. If we look at Chad's career as a trend, though the next level for him would be taking a one way plane trip home. See ya.
You don't need to fix what isn't broken. The only fix that will really help Clemens is playing time behind a real offensive line.
