He helped get us to the playoffs in 2006 though. If he can correct himself and get back to that, we have more offensive talent around him now by far.
This is the most incongruent comment I've ever seen. Were you watching the Yankee game while reading this thread and figured "why bother switching to the baseball forum, I'll just post a comment here"?
Haha .. That's exactly what happend .. I have no choice than to watch the Yanks.. Red Sox are not shown around here for obvious reasons..
First Chad moved from side-arm, to overhead throws a la Vinnie, then he tried to get his body and "core" into his throws, and now he is working on his "torque". Maybe it's true that Tiger Woods was able to re-engineer his swing. Can a QB really do this? What does Brian Daboll think about this latest re-engineering effort of Chad's, I wonder? I am interested to see how the competition plays out.
My guess is that it was his idea and detailed in the big notebook of needed improvements Chad (and Kellen) received that we've heard about.
This is SO weird. It seems like every time I visit this board and see a pro-Kellen Clemens thread, every poster on here wants to get rid of the bum. I see a pro-Chad post, and every poster thinks he's over-the-hill. I check in on the Chris Baker situation, and everyone supports management against a good player.
odd isnt it..... i think people are mad because of free agency, hey its only been 30 years... thank you freeman mcneil i dunno i guess its easy to hate the guys who actually play.
Alleycat9 is the man! I jus cannot agree with your comments on this board enough. Are some of the posters here paid off by Woody Johnson to make us all player-haters? Chris Baker has been nothing but a productive player for the Jets, and the fact that he's low-down on the pay scale for the Jets bothers me. The rest of you posters who care so much about how Woody Johnson spends his money can kiss my butt! I could care less how he spends his money. But if Alan Faneca is worth what Johnson is paying? Baker is worth a lot more.
Baker is an average NFL TE and is paid as such. Take a look at the TE's with similar production and what they get paid. He's in the upper tier of the guys he's on pace producing with.
I thought he took up Karate? So what is he going to do? The freaking crane technique before he throws. Chadason, sand de floor, paint da fence. The only way too improve his arm is to make him throw lefty.
Deep into veteran yrs?...Doesnt that mean he is getting better? Earlu 30s is when a QB reaches the peak of his prime. CP has'nt been in his prime and this could very well be it. Lets wait will the END of the season and see if Chad does the talking with his mouth or his arm.
I used to think that way before too. Its very very hard trying to change your natural action and still gain the same comfort level and perform similar if not avg. However, Ive had a first hand experience with that. I play cricket. I used to have bowling action that was considered illegal. I could'nt find a way to change it for so many yrs. Last yr, I found a way of changing it and now its a legal action and Im actually more comfortable with it than the first one. I guess no one really cares about my story but I believe that there is ALWAYS room to improve and if CP can find something in his throwing motion that can help him, who knows, he may gain a little extra zip and feel more comfortable. Its just not a matter of how long. Its a matter of HOW....
What is interesting is for most of that '06 season he had much better velcoity on the ball, he started to wear down late in the year and didn't regain it last year. I don't know if it was just fatigue or if he fell back to old habits. He's trying and I appreciate that, hopefully it helps and hopefully whoever starts can have a good year.
I think a problem exists when you have a veteran QB who is trying to change the very style of play that made him successful in the first place. I remember Chad making some pretty passes at the beginning of '06, stuff that gave me hope. I also think that when a guy is now relying almost exclusively on form, and loses that form when he gets rattled, we have an even bigger problem. I wouldn't mind having Chad as a backup to the franchise QB at all, but I don't want him to start anymore. If he gets the starting job, I will be annoyed, but he is still Chad Pennington. It's impossible for me to root against him. But my expectations won't be very high. I'd say second round of the playoffs max.
He threw some pretty passes last year too but overall he didn't display the arm strength he showed in much of '06. If we can get Clemens or Chad to be as good as Chad was in '06 then we'll be ok.
I am certain that the defense is going to take a lot of pressure off of the offense, and that should make a large difference for whomever with that starting job. I was going to go off on a tangent about how the defense will take pressure off the O, but there are appropriate threads for that, which I'll post in momentarily.
