While I think there is a good chance Shell gets the start this year we should not pass up a good value in free agency or the draft because of him. RT is not the gaping hole we have at QB, LT, CB, etc. but I won't lose any sleep if we sign a good one before the draft.

I agree. Shell is by no means a slam dunk. As part of his due diligence, Mac should inquire about the RTs who are available. If Mac and Bowles have any doubts about Shell whatsoever, and there is a good younger FA RT available who would be willing to come to the Jets, Mac should at least inquire what the agent is looking for, and possibly make a reasonable offer.

Nothing ASJ has done so far should stop them from taking Howard early if they beleive the Sharpe/Gonzalez comps.

I like ASJ's potential, but he hasn't played more than 9 games in any of this 3-year career. In addition, he wasn't exactly lighting it up last year. I'm not saying we should take Howard, as this is a very good draft class of TEs, but I think the Jets should draft a TE this year. The position has been ignored for waaay too long. The better teams in the NFL have good TEs and use them. It's rumored that Morton will install a WCO offense, and TEs can be particularly important in that offense.

IMO the best GMs draft to the strength of the draft. So often the strengths of the draft don't match up with Jets' needs. They haven't at QB for most of the last 10 years, and this year don't match up at LT. They do this year at CB/DB, OLB, TE, & RB. I don't think the Jets should leave the draft without one of each of those positions. All are needs

    1. TB sucks.
    2. Failey sucks.

ASJ might be a headcase. He will have to prove he belongs. At least he deserves a shot.

Move Skrine back to his natural position, keep Decker as a veteran presence & mentor for the young WR corps , and keep Folk as he has been pretty consistent for us.

The rest, although Mangold would really hurt, should be considered.

I agree that ASJ might be a headcase. That's all the more reason why the Jets HAVE to draft a TE in the draft, even if they sign one in FA.

As sad as it is for me to type, there is no offseas blueprint to fix this team. I mean if Mac pulls his head out of his ass and actually makes all of the right moves, what kind of improvement does that constitute? Maybe 10-6 and miss the playoffs again? The bottom line here is the GM and the HC both are incompetent idiots. They should have been fired already. What point does it prove in keeping them? That they are committed to LOSING?

This line of thinking is exactly why we're in the situation we are right now.

Woody has too much Jerry Jones in him to let go and allow someone who actually knows what they're doing take the wheel and breed success. Woody is fond of charismatic personalities, Herm Edwards, Rex Ryan. This isn't the formula to a winning organization. Bowles has made mistakes as an HC in his duties, likewise Mac has also had some head scratching moves.

The thing is you can't just continue to hire and fire a rotation of staff every 3-4 years and expect to be competitive. If you have a VERY good established roster as a new HC/GM and front office you may be able to come in and have success. This is still a difficult challenge. A new staff coming into a roster situation with a mix of very young players and vets in their twilight have a monumental challenge, which both Bowles and Mac were able to overcome in 2015. This past year they took a step back. We (the fans) have to understand and allow the staff to bring in their type of players to execute their type of gameplan, then develop the continuity to be able to execute this gameplan at a high level. This isn't done in a single season or even two.

Then there's the other angle of this hire/fire rotation in that no credible coach or GM would want to come to NY knowing this is the culture here. Bowles had a disappointing showing last year as I previously stated but he hasn't had enough of a chance to prove his worth. The 2017 season will be his defining moment. I will reserve my judgement until then.

If you haven't heard yet, musical chair with HC and GM is de facto the way to succeed in the NFL.
