seems like just the year before last we had 5 QBs take snaps over the course of the season, so the third string QB is of a fair importance. Not to mention our first stringer has a very fragile history and number 2 is pretty much a rookie.

Ramsey did suck, but he is way better than Tui, which says something. Personally I feel that was the worst move of the offseason by far.

I can't think of who the 5th qb was? penny, ramsey, clemens, smith ... who was the fifth (just wondering)?

Anyway - the only reason our third string QB took any snaps last season was mop up duty and to give the rook a little PT so was that really of much importance to our season? How often is it that the 3rd string QB is really necessary? Honestly, how concerned are you about the 3rd stringer?

If we get to QB #3 we're f'd anyway.

oh no i wasnt talkin about last season, sorry for the confusion. I was talkin about 05. We had pennington, fiedler, interceptiverde, bollinger, and I remember one game vin and brooks got knocked out and some scrub had to play like the last 5 mins or so, not exactly huge but I mean thats technically 5 QBs that needed to play.

To answer your question, I'm not extremely concerned abour a 3rd string QB, however when you have a starter who is injury-prone, and Pennington definetely is one of the most by his history, you have to be pretty concerned. Look at the Eagles as an example, they know Mcnabb is prone to injury, so they always have good backups, 2nd and 3rd string just in case.

True if we get down to our 3rd stringer we are probably screwed, but thats not the way to plan it out.

With Pennington and young Clemens, it would have probably been more wise to get a somewhat serviceable veteran backup, not Tui, who doesnt offer much in my opinion.

Why do people feel the need to single out free agency? We should be discussing the Jets off-season as a whole. So that should include the Thomas Jones trade. What is gained by focusing on free agency and bashing it when we all know the Jets made a huge, excellent move by trade for Thomas Jones. Some people just love to hate.

penny went down in 03 -missed 6 games- in 04 missed three games and 05
    missed 13 games
should it happen again jets wont win anything
best insurance was ramsey as a #2 QB or david carr or joey harrington ---anyone but Tui

those guys are not great but would give us a chance to win some games

clemens in two mop up duties was awful----sacked 4 times when game was out of reach --only got off one pass inc.

he needs a lot of work---a couple of more years as #3

It gives people with agenda a reason to whine and complain until the draft. Thankfully, the list of those types of people has dwindled greatly since Mangini and Tannenbaum took over.

Apparently Mangini and company disagree. I'll trust there opinion.

Just as long as Thomas Jones doesn't come out of the huddle singing, "What's new, pussycat, whoa-oo-whoa-oo-whoa-oh...."

damm looking at the title of the thread I thought the Jets signed a Nose Gaurd

I had to read that crap

to the original poster, tell me the last time a team won a Super that was built on FA

plus you obviously have no clue about the cap
Clements, A Thomas and Briggs that was funny

we were told the jets were about 20M under the cap ---enuf to grab 2 or 3 impact FAs

the LB who went from the ravens to the pats would have made a very good addition----the guys on jets-tv were talking him up
also russ colombo the OL that the cowboys resigned would have been a good addition----our ol has no depth and the starters were weak on rushing last year
usually the team with the better players has very good seasons---one way to get them is via FA

If you can not name the players by their names, how can you be sure they are good?

Have you ever seen them play? Or do you just take in what the heads on TV tell you?

    His name is Marc Colombo.

I let you try and figure out what the LB the Pats signed name is.

And for the 1 millionth time...Mangini has stated time and time again he will build this team via the draft.

yeah we were 20 mil under at the start of the year
but Chad and other players incentives kicked in so down to 14 mil in cap room
    Cotch extension 13 mil
T Jones about 2.5 mil so down to 10.5
Coleman about 2 mil down to 8.5 mil
all of the rest fo the guys are 550k-1 mil there are 9 other signees so 5 mil
    down to 3.5 mil
we made cuts but not many I think we only gained 3 mil
we have about 6.5 mil left in cap room(give or take 1 or 2 mil) and we still have draft picks to go-they will cost about 4.5 mil looking at last yrs salaries at the draft positions we have

so 2 mil I know Mc Cariens and Barret will save 2.5 mil if they are cut but we wont sign that many more FA's

and next yr we will be even better in cap shape for when we can actually get a decent player and I am sure it will be a better FA class

but as you see its really easy to go through 20 mil

and BTW columbo stinks. he was a 1st rnd bust for the bears and now he finnally shows up for a contract yr last yr? you watch he will stink agian until his FA year.

that is sad... we have a pretty damn good line, penny was almost never sacked... and why were we at the bottom in rushing, that's right NO MAJOR BACK...

give me a break, how can u discount our line in that way, i can't wait to see how tough they are this year..

jets had enuf cap money to sign the lb thomas if they didnt sign bowens coleman haynes and wordsworth----would have made more sense (cents) to have signed a top lb in his prime rather than 4 guys who never made it

Pennington took 30 sacks, 12th highest in the league. That was with a dink and dunk passing offense. Hardly "almost never sacked".
