I just love that he referred to the Jets new RB as TOM Jones. I really hope Thomas Jones will do the Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air song and dance to "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones when he celebrates his TDs next year.
One of the best signing the Jets had this offseason was no signing all: Schotty Jr. staying in the fold for a second year. Good from two perspectives: 1) he's an imaginative playcaller who isn't afraid to gameplan or pull the trigger 2) we maintain continuity in the scheme/terminology, which is something that has been sorely lacking of late -- Hackett (2004), Dinger (2005), Schotty Jr. (2006). That's good for Chad, but it's also great for Clemens. And on top of it all, Mangini smartly hired Daboll to learn the system from Schotty Jr. so that he can maintain its core elements when Schotty Jr. gets hired for a head coaching gig. While Daboll will probably add his wrinkles, I think it's safe to assume that Mangini wants to maintain the SD-KC system that Schotty Jr. has implemented and Daboll will be responsible for maintaining its core elements. As for the Pats, I continue to see them as Yankees north (and I'm a Yankees fan). They're trying to regain the magic/success that they had during their streak of dominance by adding a piece here or a piece there that will put them over the top. But they've lost that karma/comradery that drove the results, and the success proves elusive.
Despite the fact that we made the playoffs last year we are still in the process of rebuilding. When we are ready to win the S/B the front office will spend the money to get the final pieces. The big moves of this off season will be done via the draft.
Damn straight and it was a helluva deal...a top tier back to take over the main duties so we can groom leon some more... a damn good move even if it was a trade and not a FA aquisition
I think you nailed it. The Jets coaching staff/ FO is trying to build a winning/ super bowl team for more than one season. You do this by adding young quality players, not players the end of their careers. Next off season may be the off season to make a big FA splash -- when the Jets are one or two key players from contending for the SB -- this year is still a rebuilding year.
Thomas --the LB that signed with the pats Colombo ---The OL that re-signed with the cowboys Clemens the CB from buffalo the 2 defensive guys would improve our D tremendously
FYP. LOL I love it. Why didn't we sign , A. Thomas, Clements, Colombo, .............. Geez man you forgot why not make tender offers to Michael Turner, L. Briggs and A. Samuel so in addition to ruining the salary cap for the next decade we can effectively ruin our draft too.
You do know that there is a salary cap, right? In the perfect world you can sign them all, and then dance with puppies under brilliant rainbows..
we were told the jets were about 20M under the cap------that's more than enough to sign at least 2 of them with plenty money still left over the pats signed many guys---how come our guru isn't as good as their guru????
have you learned nothing from the patriots? it is not about making a splash, its about finding compatible pieces to the puzzle
Us and them are in different situations, we are building a core for our team, they built the core of their team and it ran its course already, and are just reloading for another run. The more I see it every year the more I realize that most big name FAs just end up being overrated next to the rest of their market, which is why the Redskins never go anywhere.
I would much rather hear this complaint then the one you would be lodging in 3 years when said overpaid FA's are eating up our cap. Thanks for your opinion but try to think about balancing long term vs. immediate gain. Now if we were in a position to make a run a the SB this year you might have a point.
