Yeah you get what I mean. Another key is preparing the no huddle all week in drills. The whole offense has to be ready to get into it at a moment's notice. This requires perfect orchestration to execute or else you are going to get stuck on the line of scrimmage with the play call.
This is nearly verbatim the argument brought up on the Giants' forum I post on. Pre 2007 everyone wanted the Giants to run the no huddle more as Eli played best during the no-huddle/2 minute offense. Having said that, it's not sustainable. The hurry up offense for most teams (Colts with Peyton Manning notwithstanding) is made up of the plays they have the most success with/their players are most comfortable with. By definition, you can't run this all the time. The hurry up/no huddle/2 minute offense is like the black box on airplane; when the rest of the plane is destroyed the black box survives thus leading standup comedians to ask why the entire plane isn't black box. When the offense under-performs for most of the game but plays well in a hurry up everyone clamors for more hurry up. Just as it isn't feasible to build an entire plane out of black box material, you can't build your entire offense around a no-huddle model (again, unless you're Peyton Manning). And yes, I know it's a stupid analogy! It's all I've got!
This is easier said than done...setting the ball at the LOS means that all the lineman must hold their position for...what...20 seconds? The defense has the advantage that they can move from set position, but the offensive line cannot flinch. Try it if you don't believe me -- bend down like a center and don't move. While it can be done, it is difficult, especially with a line as yippy as ours has been with stupid False Start penalties on regular plays!
We should go no huddle for the entire season. It's the only chance to get away from Shotty's predictable calls. Rex, send a message fire Shotty and promote from within. Do it, Do it now!
Good post. I agree Schotty must go, but it will not happen. He has some major dirt on someone to have lasted this long.
1) You're not allowed to snap the ball without allowing defensive substitutions if you've made offensive ones. 2) Waiting a while to snap the ball kills the purpose of the no huddle and certainly wouldn't kill substitution by the defense. EDIT: just read again, realized you're not swapping personnel, just using same personnel in a different formation. Ignore #1.
Teams built on D need to use the clock on O change field positon and control TOP. The no huddle is a quick strike O not a field position TOP O.
Not sure if the Ravens make sense as a no huddle opponent. I think they do. Hope Sanchez does it today
We run the no huddle when we're down and have no choice. You run that shit 70% of the time and Sanchez will throw 4 picks a game. He is wayyy to inaccurate and makes wayyy too many stupid decisions. This is a TERRIBLE idea.
