I'm not a huge fan of Brunell but he is a clear upgrade over Clemens, even if we get nothing for him.

Brunell is what, 80? Unless we can get a draft pick for Clemens, no thanks. And then still, no thanks.

Well, I'd rather trade Clemens for a late-round draft pick and sign the draft pick (without restrictions) for depth purposes.

I don't know how many high-risk, high-reward types there are in the 6th or 7th rounds, but I would think we're getting to the spot where we ought to load up on those guys.

I didn't see Brunell tripping over his own two feet on a handoff in the last season he played.

That's all true, but it's not like the developmental QB is going to get in the game unless Sanchez gets hurt. Either way, a developmental QB will learn mostly in training camp and practice.

And if Sanchez does have an injury where he misses, say, 1-4 games, I would take my chances with a veteran who probably gives us a higher chance to win those games.

I'm only recommending signing Brunell if we dump Clemens. I don't like having 5 QBs obviously. I do think they consider Ainge and O'Connell developmental. They should probably pick their favorite though and try and sneak the other onto the practice squad or something (I don't know exactly how NFL waivers et. al work).

I'd prefer Bulger, but a vet is a vet. We need someone back there who has had success at some point in the NFL. Clemens might be the worst backup in the NFL, worse than Curtis Painter.

    Holy Jesus

Mark Brunell at this stage of his career is like Pennington without his head. No good.

Talent wise, I would say Clemens is a much better QB at this point in their careers. But Brunell's tutoring skills could be a huge benefit for Sanchez, so it might be worth it for that reason solely.

Obv Pennington would be nice but its not gonna happen.

Yeah Brunell is gonna be joining Favre in the 40 and over club, but this guy does have skill (or had) and hes got more than plenty of knowledge and experience.

I think with our type of offense he would be sufficient to win 2 or 3 games if needed. He has a reputation for being a conservative passer who makes smart decisions (thus he holds the nfl record for most consecutive completions). And the only reason he hasnt done anything in years is he got sucked into the disaster that is the redskins, and then sat behind Brees for a couple of years.

    Bring on the Brunell !

Vinny can still fire the ball into opposing CBs hands. Brunell can only one hop the ball to them.

Brunell must be 85 years old by now. And the guy didn't exactly have a rocket arm even in his prime. For the love of God, tell me this is a joke, Tannenbaum.

I don't want a guy mentoring our QB when he's only had 1 year with a QB rating over 90.
