New York Jets Updated:04/10/2007 Reaching into his New England past, Jets coach Eric Mangini is showing interest in Patriots restricted free agent Randall Gay. The New York Daily News reports that Gay blossomed under Mangini's tutelage in 2004 as an undrafted rookie. The Patriots, who tendered Gay with a one-year, $1.3 million qualifying offer, would be compensated with a second-round draft pick if they decide not to match an offer sheet from another team.
Randall Gay.... i didnt see this posted, but on sportscenter tonight, the goblin known as john clayton (whats wrong with his head) said that we were looking at signing gay to an offer sheet....even though itwould cost a 2nd round pick. while i like him as a player, and he would give us some proven depth, i hate the notion of giving the patsies another pick....especially a 2nd rounder.... what the consencus around here? btw....assante samuel isnt happy with the way the contract talks are going....and that could mean a 1 and done for him with NE.....wouldnt mind seeing him in green in 08.
If we gave a 3rd rounder it would be horrible. I really hope this is some negotiation tactic used to bargain with Cincy for Andrews. Horrible idea even for a third.
This guy played in 3 games last season-- 8 games the last 2 years with 14 tackes 1 pass defensed, and 0 picks. Doesn't seem worth a 6th round pick to me. If he wasn't on the Pats, nobody on this site would have ever heard his name.
There's just no way we do this. Gay is an okay CB when he's healthy which is not often. With your 2nd round pick you need to be getting a plus starter and have some confidence he'll play out his first contract. Gay just doesn't have those qualities. Signing Gay and giving the Pats a 2nd round pick would be equivalent to the Santana Moss for 3 draft picks fiasco that Bradway gave us in his first draft.
