You never know what you'll learn when you sit down with somebody. The Jets could find out some inside skinny on the Samuel situation or on Rodney Harrison or the Pats potential tradeup to take LaRon Landry. Personally I wouldn't spend the time on this but I don't have to compete with the best FO/CS in football at the moment.
Yikes? 6th Round picks are not very valuable. Guys on that talent level can generally be grabbed after the draft. It's the part of the draft where teams don't have to worry too much about other teams grabbing their guy first because most of the guys drafted them are random anyway.
He's young he played in the system and he's a lot better than Miller who we drafted with a high second. I don't see why not?
hey i dunno guys. mangini's smart. maybe pick 63 is worth gay. he knows our system. he's started and played well in a super bowl and he's more athletic than we all think, just read this: RANDALL GAY VITAL STATS: Position: CB Weight: 185 Height: 5'10 7/8" 40 yard dash time: 4.33 3-Year Letterman Gay came to LSU as a running back, yet was switched to defensive back his freshman year. In his first season, Gay saw action in five games, recording two tackles at defensive back. He served as one of seven freshman in 2000 who saw action on defense. Gay began to make his presence felt in his sophomore season, playing in all 13 games with one start. His breakout game came against Illinois in the 2001 Sugar Bowl, forcing one fumble and returning a fumble 19 yards, setting up an LSU touchdown. During the NFL's Pro Day, Gay put together a 4.29 40, surprising NFL scouts as many expected him to finish in the 4.55 range. Although Gay may not be the highest regarded defensive back in the draft, his experience could prove important, and would certainly fill any team's need as a backup.
2nd round picks are supposed to be people that you could see starting for you for a half a decade without any problem. Gay, after two injury-filled years just does not fit that bill. And if you put an extra 2nd round pick in New England's hands you're just begging them to get younger and better on you.
It's not. He played 8 games in the last 2 years. Maybe a 4th but then we don't have one. Hell, Jacksonville only wants a 3rd at most for Kris Jenkins. Different position but at least he has been all pro.
I think he's a good corner, but with his injury issues and the cost (compared to drafting a CB with pick #57) I'd rather just draft one with one of the 2nd rounders.
If this trade does happen, I can see us trading out of the first round to grab a pick back possibly with Tampa Bay at 35 and 64, but that does not even equal out in pick value. The only way I can see them doing a #25 for #35/#64 is if they are targeting someone specific. TB could trade their #67 instead of the #64 and it still wouldn't be of equal value. Too risky, but could be a nice reward if he does do well. Honestly, I'd rather go with Ross in the 1st round and go after Gay after next season when he proves he can stay healthy and when he's a unrestricted free agent.
even though he has history with mangini i still don't think its worth giving up a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, depending on how the first round goes there could be a lot of quality CBs available in the 2nd round for us
Somehow the backups always turn into stars anyway. I dont know how they do it, but they do. Why not? ....
On Foxsports.com >Cornerback Randall Gay came away from his visit with the Jets yesterday without a contract offer. The deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets is April 20. The Jets' interest in Gay could have been geared toward next season in the form of a recruiting visit, as Gay is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2007 season.< Posted April 11, by Ben Maller
