wouldnt we of had to given up a 2nd rounder for him. if thats a case doesnt that mean we dont draft sanchez. so it sucks to miss out but w.e im happy with marky mark, edwards, and greene
Until he proves he is not a one year wonder (next year) I still put these guys ahead of him. (in no order) A.Johnson Fitzgerald C.Johnson Moss Welker Edwards Cotchery Boldin Jennings White Marshall Jackson Colston Smith Ochocinco Houshmandzadeh
^Thats what I think as well. Until he puts together a couple of similar seasons, Im not ready to consider him the best in the league. I was just saying he makes a case for it.
You really think Welker would be successful without Moss? I don't. He'd be good but not the way he is now I'd easily take Austin over him
Disagreed. Welker is dirty... a total YAC machine. 3 straight 100+ REC seasons is not a product of Randy Moss on the other side of the field it's a product of elusiveness and running great routes. Austin is explosive but let's see if he can keep it up over the long haul.
After seeing this guy perform week-in and week-out when given the opportunity of a lifetime, and with the stark contrast of how good he is compared to how fucking terrible Roy Williams has been, I have to remark about how right you were from the start. Miles Austin is the real deal.
And to think, I let you bastards talk me out of it when I said there HAD to be a reason why our front office was considering a RFA contract.
Only because he clears out the field for him. Welker gets linebackers matched up and catches the ball in space--he's not that great at dodging tacklers.
The argument is moot anyway. Welker is the best in the game at what he does, but he's an entirely different receiver than Austin. I'd rather have Welker than Austin in a heartbeat, but that's because we have Edwards and Cotch split wide. If I'm a team with a solid slot receiver already, I likely take Austin. It's all about need.
Agreed. If we had Cotch and the Pats were offering Welker for the same package, Trusnik, Stuckey, a 3 and a 5, I think we'd be better off with Edwards. We needed to add that dimension of stretching the field, because it's opened up the run game and short passing game. If we had Leon, we'd see even more of the 3-5 yard dump off over the middle and let him run, that was always a big part of the offense. As it is, I don't think we use Keller enough in that role.
I'm glad that folks realize that we need another primetime receiver to offset Edwards' drops and provide balance to the passing game. Watch the draft people.. Watch very, very closely.
Jerricho Cotchery isn't that? We just need a speedster/deep threat, because with the steady Cotch, the ridiculous athleticism of Edwards, the versatility of Edwards, and the matchup issues posed by Dustin Keller, we're just in need of someone who can go 60 yards fast. We shouldn't be using Cotch on Go routes, like the route that Sanch was picked off on against Jacksonville.
If we re-sign Edwards I hope we don't draft a receiver early. I mean, we're undeniably a playoff team so anyone we draft will only be a slot receiver anyway, right? I'd rather draft a corner to eventually start across from Revis.
