Marty was 2-14 and 3-13 in his 2 seasons as HC.

Hue Jackson was the guy to bring in.

Another colossal choke job by the Jest.

Good thing he's not here to be the head coach

It's a good thing we're hiring him as OC, right?

Seriously, at least pretend to think.

You do realize that this revolves around two completely different situations, right?

They do not go hand in hand with one another because the scenarios are not the same at all.

He was a Head Coach for the Lions, that team was complete ass as well. He is being brought in here to be the OC, two different responsibilities here.

The goal is to COMPLETE passes.

That's anything but what Nacho can do.

Especially over short distances. His short passes were atrocious even from his USC days. No reason to think it will all of a sudden improve beyond any man's wildest dreams.

Eh, let's at least give the guy a chance before bashing him and calling this a bad move. Obviously the Jets are looking to move towards a more pass oriented offense, which means we will most likely pursue a free agent like Matt Moore or Jason Campbell, or possibly draft a QB in possibly any of the top 3 rounds.

I really don't think there's a hidden agenda to bring in Vick, mostly because I think Vick would want too much money.

Not sure how someone would think Vick in 2013 means flushing the season down the toilet but Sanchez wouldn't be.

My thoughts? Not the flashiest choice in the world, but I think it will grow on me.

Here's what I want in an offensive coordinator.

    1. Can he be trusted to run the show by himself?
YES! He has a ton of experience as an offensive coordinator.

With Rex as the head coach, I value a coordinator that has experience both as an offensive coordinator and as a play caller. Rex isn't touching that on offense obviously. Marty has plenty of experience at both.

Plus, Marty has been a head coach before. He wasn't a good head coach, but I view the experience he had coaching as a positive more than a negative (especially since it was over a decade ago).

    2. Has he been involved in good offenses or ones that clearly overachieved relevant to talent?
    YES!

As has been mentioned before, the Eagles never finished outside the top 15 when he was the offensive coordinator.

    3. Is he a guy who can teach quarterbacks?
    YES!

He was a quarterback in college. He's been a quarterbacks coach for five years in the NFL. Even his son is a quarterback. He hasn't totally proven he can groom a young quarterback, but there's no reason to think he can't.

I always liked Hue Jackson a lot. He was my first choice. But Mornhinweg isn't a bad choice at all.

A short quick horizontal passing game similar to the WCO is the type of offense I love. People call it dink and dunk but I don't care, it's safer, it eats clock, it's filled with high percentage throws and relies on YAC. Yeah, it's not as sexy as throwing bombs down the sideline, but I want a winning offense not a sexy offense.

I'm just not a big fan of Marty. I thought that Eagles offense was underwhelming from a scheming and playcalling standpoint considering all the weapons they had: Vick, Desean, Maclin, Celek, McCoy, etc.

My #1 guy was Hue Jackson. Thought he did a great job with not a ton of talent in Oakland and would bring a swagger/mentality that oozed confidence and brashness like our defense used to have. I even liked Pat Shurmur as a WCO guy better than Marty M.

Oh well time will tell. He's got a lot of work to do if Sanchez is going to be his starter.

I didn't read the whole thread as it was boring me with all the complaining. My take/thought on this is that Marty's system fits PERFECTLY with McElroy. "Mac" doesn't have a cannon for an arm but did appear to have accuracy. Precisely what the WC offense called for. He would be a cheap solution.

Interesting to think about...could we see Sanchez in a BACKUP role next year or at least a "duke" it out in training camp? The business side dictates that there is no way, including hell freezing over, that they let Mark walk. The only way that guy is not on the roster next year is if someone does a trade...like that will happen. And, I'll take "Mac" over Sanchez in a read and react role all day long...especially when you throw a little thing like accuracy on the pile.

It's funny how people are happy about the west coast offense now but when the Jets have
actually ran it in the past people despised it... because it really sucks.

I' m not happy about this hiring because it doesn't signal to me that they have a decided long term plan to get serious on offense. It has Rex Ryans fingers all over it and Rex doesn't know shit about offense. It's not someone who is going to infuse life into that side of the ball, not someone who people in the league dont already know about as far as schemes and everything. It's just a guy Rex knows and figures he can at least make the offense a little better. Sparano was the same thing

People want to pair Rex Ryan with the equivalent of a Rex Ryan on offense. A risk taker. A mastermind of their side of the ball. A guy who's going to lobby hard for players on offense. Etc. Instead they hire a retread, a safe choice and a safe playcaller. The jets settled for the safe choice once again instead of showing the want to get serious on offense with a bold move. It might safe Ryan his job but long term it just shows the organization will never be balanced as long as he's here. Top 10 D, mediocre at best offense - and it will always be secondary.

Just wait till November when you all are so sick of dump off passes and draws on 3rd down that you want to puke... WCO and Morningweg at it' s finest

My question: Why didn't Andy Reid take Marty to KC with him? Had to be a reason.

Does he know how to call a screen? If so, welcome to NY.

Dude.. There are different versions of the WCO. I'm guessing you are referring to Hackett's WCO? That was horrible, predictable, and a very conservative version of it.

Do you see the Packers doing the things you are describing? They run a WCO and their offense is one of the most exciting offense's in the league right now.

You are basing your opinion on a WCO that will not be used with Marty. He has been much more deep threat oriented and attacking based with his offense.

They were together for ten years, there has to be a reason for that as well don't ya think? Throughout the years, he never had that offense below the top 15 in total offense.

I'm guessing it is because of the change in scenery, it was probably time to start completely fresh since it is a fresh start after all. It would probably be hard to sell the tandem to the KC fans because of last year, which I don't think was at all the coaching staffs fault.

That OL was horrible, just horrible, and obviously the QB play was very shaking on top of all of that as well. I'm sure there are several factors involved.

I don't think that Reid would have stuck by Marty for that long if he thought that he wasn't pulling his weight for that team.

This is a very good point. There are many different versions/extensions of the WCO. Even the Patriots have elements of the WCO in their offense. The Packers are a good example of an explosive WCO. Shanahan's WCO in Denver has evolved in Washington with the addition of RG3.

    You're wrong.

Go back and watch the St Louis game.

The problem is, 90 percent of what he's been asked to do since he got here, o's throw outside the numbers, and down the field.

Personally I like an O that throws the ball down the field for big plays and mixes in screens with runs. This is something we did successfully when we had Tomlinson and Braylon. It's also something Philly tried to do all the time. They didn't run a classic WCO, they bombed the ball and had the personal to do it.

I'm very suspect of the WCO with an innacurate QB with a relatively slow release who is also short.

If you watched the Seahawks this year Wilson was often in a very deep drop. This helps a short QB see down the field. A short QB on a 3 step drop needs to understand the lanes so he can get the ball out on the quick slants. There are trigger men who can do this but I'm very suspect Mark Sanchez can do that.

Nothing wrong with this hire if we get the right personal. I really don't think this is about resurecting Sanchez.

I love "fans" who root against their own team.

"I'm gonna hope for failure in 2013 so the coach gets fired and, maybe, we get someone better."

    Totally makes sense.
