Did it occur to you that getting rid of Rodgers was the best thing that Glenn could do to better his chances of having a winning season and at the same time, more importantly, establish that there was a new sheriff in town? I notice that while hitting the "reply" button in the question I posed, you did nothing to respond to it.
What the hell are you doing here posting? You made a bet; you set the terms - you lost! It's time to be a man and delete your ID here like you said you would.
Sadness for whom? Him or us? I felt sadness when he was hired but much more frustration that reflected the "here we go again" reality of the situation.
Rodgers is going to shit talk the Jets so bad on his way out it will be a classless move if/when he does because the Jets are handling his release with class. They announce it right away so he can find another job, release statements thanking him and took some licks by fans from other teams with their over the top thanking of him online now he’s gonna go shit talk the Jets hardcore. I hope I’m wrong but it seems like a Rodgers move
I don't remember the McCariens trade. Must be my age, or maybe I'm numb to all the dumb things this team has done. DeWayne Robertson is a legit candidate for that Dishonorable Mention....another of those "fast risers" and I recall Rich Cimini warning about taking him at the time. Another Woody move as I recall, forcing that on Terry Bradway. Worst trade IMO still trading up to #2 for Lam Jones when they really wanted to take Anthony Munoz and got overruled by Dr. James Nicholas.
I think it's very likely to have turned out the way I posited. Regardless....I think Saleh deserved the full year. To fire him after 5 games ? That is moronic. This was Woody doing what he's done for 20+ years.....he panics and responds to social media doofuses.
I remembered Mccariens as a free agent signing for some reason and not a trade. But you guys are right it was a trade. Irregardless the Rodgers was worse because it cost a lot more I suppose if it took Rodgers acquisition to bring to light the Jets terrible way of operating with brick Johnson maybe long term it wasn’t a bad thing
Saleh proved he can win 7 games, and had he stayed there is a strong chance that's exactly what would have happened, since the defense would have been a little better. So, maybe we are picking 12-13th right now instead of 7th after another losing season. Or worse, Woody doesn't completely clean house. As far as firing a losing coach mid season, I don't think that in itself was moronic. It was moronic not to fire him last off-season, but whether 5 games in or end season to me is same shit. There were many cases where firing midseason gives a little spark. An example would be the as recent as the Raiders in 2023, where the HC was fired after 3-5 and interim coach actually went 5-4. So Woody tried to do the same and instead of winning a couple of games more and having a chance at play-offs, we ended with a couple of games fewer. Even if you look at these 5 games a little closer, these 2 wins didn't really live up very well. The teams we beat are 29th and 32nd in NFL. And the Titans game we really have to thank Will Levis for giving it away. The Broncos was before Nix exploded, when he had training wheels on. SF turned out to be a bad team too and they easily blew us out. So, we got some breaks there and still didn't do too well. Saleh deserved to be fired. Unfortunately people on his staff turned out to be even worse, but Saleh was not fired too soon, he was fired too late. Like I said, the moronic fuck up was made a year before in keeping these absolute loser HC and GM, but firing them midseason didn't make too much difference.
Give him the year, if we don't have the year we want, I agree....fire him. We looked RIDICULOUS and I have yet to see any reputable sportswriter or columnist defend the move at that time or subsequently. You went all-in with Rogers only 8 months earlier and then after he plays 4 snaps you're gonna ditch him, Saleh, and Rogers after 2023 ? That'll be GREAT for recruiting in the future -- what GM or coach would trust Woody, what FA would trust him or anybody under him ? As it turns out, we look schizophrenic with 2 kids having his ear instead of adults, the coach, or the GM. His inner circle was apparently against it -- including his brother, Christopher -- but his 2 kids were in favor of it apparently.
It's was 100% Woody. Something that big will always come down to what Woody wants. A shuffle around of the window display this offseason, and his surrounding need to keep a lower media profile for a bit after the Athletic put him on embarassing blast, didn't change that.
That's all this offseason has been. It's going to be the same product put out on the field again until they finally figure out that they have to do something different.
How do you figure a guy whose winning record was .351 deserved anything? What business survives on such a success rate? Most people believe it was moronic to give Saleh those five games. Delaying the inevitable did nothing to benefit the future of the organization. It amazes me that some here are still making excuses for utter failure.
My opinion: It was a joint decision of Mougey, Spielman and Glenn that was heartily endorsed by the Johnson family and upper Jets management.
Totally agree on Saleh. Nothing but a huggy best friend to each player and not one bit of discipline or accountability.
