Why would we HAVE to get a 1st round pick, as long as we get first round VALUE, and we have the ability to trade up? Just so you know, according to the draft value chart Abe would be valued at around pick #28 in that deal. It sounds like you're willing to accept #31, so i don't understand why you wouldn't do this deal. It's not like I wouldn't rather get something better, such as Abe and our 3rd rounder for #15 overall, but IMO getting 3 first day picks for Abe is fair value.
If you think atlanta is just gonna give there 15 pick striaght up for abe, your delusional. It will never happen. NEVER. Sit the season, and thats beneficial to us how ??????? Ive said it before we may have to bite the bullet.
according to Jabba, the talent for this draft cuts off at 35....... Should of told hines ward, zach thomas, t.j houshmanzadeh that.
Listen .... its beneficial to threaten to make him sit because just like last year HE WON'T. He will not sit and lose $8 million. If it comes down to it he will play for the Jets. The Jets have the room to keep him if it comes to that. The new FO has to hold strong here ... because if they fold ... if they "bite the bullet" then they will already have been played for fools and teams/players will think they can push them around. Think back to when Law vs. Belly was going on when Law wanted the big bucks. Belly didn't fold and Law conformed....and the Pats were better off for it. This is the time to make it known you will NOT get pushed around by anyone. If Abe does sit this year fine ... the message will still be sent and the Jets will be better off for it in the future. The fans here that want/need/MUST HAVE some immediate gratification need to realize that its in the best interest of the team both immediate and long term that they do not "settle" on a deal.
Atlanta Trade with Cleveland Instead of these guys focusing on giving us their 1st round pick , look at what they are worrying themselves with Updated: March 18, 2006, 10:58 AM ET Falcons trade for Browns' safety CrockerBy Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com ATLANTA -- Demonstrating that they are serious about overhauling a safety corps that rated as one of the NFL's worst in '05, the Atlanta Falcons have acquired three-year veteran Chris Crocker from the Cleveland Browns for a fourth-round pick in this year's draft. Crocker The trade is contingent on Crocker passing a Monday physical exam. On Friday, the Falcons added 10-year veteran safety Lawyer Milloy, agreeing with him on a three-year, $6.01 million contract. Crocker, 26, started all 16 games for the Browns in 2005 for the first time in his career and has his best season by far, with 86 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one recovery, two interceptions, and four passes defensed. For his career, he has 175 tackles, three interceptions and 11 passes defensed, and had appeared in 44 games and started 22 of them. A former Marshall standout, Crocker was chosen in the third round of the 2003 draft. While the Browns felt Crocker was still a starting caliber player, the team has a glut at safety, and coaches are convinced that second-year pro Brodney Pool, a highly regarded second-round choice in 2005, is prepared to step into the starting lineup this season. The young Cleveland safety contingent also includes Sean Jones and Brian Russell. Conversely, safety has been a position of concern in Atlanta for several years, and the overall performance of the team's safeties in 2005 was poor. Not only did the Falcons safeties not make big, game-altering plays, they also failed to make routine ones, and their collective tackling was shoddy. Team officials and coach Jim Mora acknowledged that rebuilding the safety position was an offseason priority. Even with the additions of Milloy and Crocker, the Falcons might still use an early-round draft choice to bring in another young safety. In Milloy, the Falcons landed a veteran who will get everyone lined up in the right place, and who is a sure tackler. Crocker should provide energy and another physical hitter to the interior of the secondary, and he is also a very good special teams player. Crocker has two seasons remaining on his contract and has a base salary of $1 million for 2006. Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com.
I hope we do a deal with Seattle Instead of Atlanta, unless Atlanta is willing to give us the 15 and second round pick. The number 31 pick is perfect for us to get our O lineman, better than Atl's mid second round pick.If Abe doesnt like it he can play for us for one more year.
And look what Seattel is doing The two rivals for Abe are building their roster while awaiting their fate Updated: March 18, 2006, 11:29 AM ET Seahawks stockpile defensive tackles, add DavisBy Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com The Seattle Seahawks, who already have one of the best defensive tackle rotations in the league, have further added to the depth at the position, by reaching a contract agreement with unrestricted free agent Russell Davis. Davis Davis, who visited earlier in the week with Seattle officials, is a seven-year veteran who played the last six seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He is coming off a 2005 season in which a torn biceps limited him to just three games, after he had missed just one game the previous four years. The contract, ESPN.com has confirmed, is for three years but financial details were not yet available. It was believed that when the Seahawks re-signed Rocky Bernard to a three-year contract earlier this week, they would no longer be interested in adding Davis to their tackle mix. But the Seahawks apprised Davis and his agent that the retention of Bernard would not preclude them from adding another tackle, and it took only two more days then to complete a deal. Seattle already has three other veteran tackles beyond Bernard -- Chuck Darby, Marcus Tubbs and Craig Terrill -- but Davis still figures to get significant playing time. The Seattle staff rotates tackles frequently, believing it can maximize a player's productivity by minimizing his snaps. There were occasions in 2005 when the Seattle reserves logged more snaps than the starters. Davis, 30, should be a good fit in Seattle, because he has always been a player who believes more in the team concept than individual statistics. Outside of Bernard, certainly the most active of the group, Seattle tackles tend to be more steady than spectacular. Davis, whose size (6-feet-4, 306 pounds) makes him a good nose tackle candidate, fits that mold. A former North Carolina standout, Davis was chosen by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1999 draft. Despite making the all-rookie team, he was released by the Bears in 2000 and the Cardinals claimed him on waivers. Davis became a durable and dependable player in Arizona, starting 63 of a possible 64 games at one stretch. The biceps injury in 2005 was the most serious of his career, but is fully rehabilitated. In 98 games, Davis has 246 tackles, 8? sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com
Reading Atlanta's message board, they are acting like we shoudl be happy to get a 2nd round pick.... ABe is a top 5 DE in th eleague, ATlanta is giving him 15-18 million in guaranteed money so they certainly view him as one of the best. But they are lowballing the Jets by only offering a 2nd rounder. If the Jets trade Abe to the Falcons for any less than a 1st rounder or schaub and a 2nd rounder I'll be pissed, there is no one pointing a gun at Tannenbaum's head to pull the trigger on the deal. We had the same situation with Abe last year, he held out till after training camp and signed and is pulling the same crap this offseason.
I think the we should just tell the Falcons to screw off and that your not getting him this year or next, if he doesn't want to go to Seattle then pay him his 8mil. and make him wear green again...Their's no way ABE wants to stay here, so he'll either make Atlanta ante up or he'll go to Seattle!
i would'nt count out abe not passing the other teams physical with his history, maybe teams are reluctant to give him the money he wants let alone the jets asking for a #1 pick.
Jet Players iN NFL europe Charles Missant C and Isaac Snell OL are on Tv now, Shouldnt Norm katnip be playing In NFL Europe also? i think they both play for Frankfurt.
Broncos sign Kenard Lang Instead of giving us one of their late first round picks, they want a washed up Lang.
What the hell is that in your signature? That may be the dumbest mascot I've ever seen for any team, anywhere.
Where?s the leverage bench warmer? The boys are in control. They have absolutely no reason to do anything rash - We either get our price or keep the player. Franchise him again next year or trade him if a good deal comes our way - whatever is in our best interest. Until we do something definitive, he plays for us (that's not a bad leverage) if you ask me. Regarding Atlanta not give up their 15th overall for Abraham. Screw them, Abe is worth the 15th pick period - Abe was a 15th pick and has excelled. He's a Pro Bowl player. Opposing team's OCs have to game plan for Abraham. Because he is such a disruptive force, he makes his other defensive teammates look that much better - The guy is only 27 in the prime years of his career and will give the Falcons a better opportunity to make the playoffs. Whoever we take at #15 is a question mark. Peace out.
Atlanta won't trade Schaub b/c hs is their only real backup QB for Vick. So.... We trade Abe and Ramsey for Schaub and their #6.
Atlanta is trying to pull a heist. The Jets should ask Atlanta one more time for #15 as a take it or leave it. If they say no, Jets should call Abe's agent and tell him that the Atlanta Falcons don't feel his client is worth the #15 pick in the draft, therefore the franchise offer is on the table if he'd like to sign it. If not, he's out of luck. And hang up.
