I'm sorry, this is such a retarded statement. So Woody doesn't care about all of the fans because he's moving the team to NJ? But an owner that would move them back to Queens does? If they moved back to Queens, what about all of the other fans in NJ? I even read something the other day that quoted Jay Cross as saying 50% of the season ticket holders lived in NJ. What about all of them?
Don't get into this all he wants is a stadium closer to him, that's all they have in an argument is that they want them back in NY for their greedy reasons. They'll spew some BS about bringing them back home where they have been disrespected twice by NY despite the fact that they've called NJ home longer than NY. This guy is also pissed because they moved training camp from near his home to NJ where the team doesn't have to travel so far on gamedays. There is no legit argument to moving the team back to NY now.
Careful... Champs recently stated he thought he saw 70% season ticketholders (being from Jersey). According to Champs, the Jets themselves had issued this number. But when I asked him about the source because I wanted to verify it for myself, many people piled on and wanted to know where they could find this out also. It turned out that Champs instructed everyone to "call the front office and they will give the numbers to you." Needless to say, I didn't call and I don't know if anyone else did either. I happen to think this is a closely guarded secret by the FO and they really don't want this info given out at all.
The New York Jets don't belong in NY? Didn't the Woodman himself say something about bringing the Jets home to NY when he bought the team?
It was just said by Jay Cross this past weekend in an article about the Giants' stadium practice. Since Champ won't believe someones' word (but thinks it's ok for everyone to believe his...curious?) I decided to dig up what I read: http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/115475595032720.xml&coll=1 Here's the quote in case he doesn't want to click the link: At least now he can stop telling everyone to call the Jets' ticket office...but I get the feeling he won't stop with the 70% stat.
Please what about all the Long Island and New Yorkers who schlepped over the Hudson. They were a NY-LI team when they were formed over 40 yrs ago. Now they're nothing but a toy for a rich Jersey boy to play with as he can as the owner.
And there's nothing you can do about it, so what's the point of crying over it? Bottom line is they'll be playing and practicing very close together. That's a positive. No more insane bus rides for the players the day before the game to get to the stadium.
KSJet94, Thanks VERY much for digging this up. I missed it in the papers. This has been a debate for awhile and I've been wanting to actually verify something as having come from the front office. All throughout that difficult time when Woody was trying to get the WSS passed and people were speculating about the Queens location, etc., the Jets Front Office kept particularly silent on these figures and would not provide ANY information on the season ticket-holder base. I think they knew it would stir up even more sh*t than was already brewing if the season ticket-holders knew that most of the base was from the Jersey side. This is something I've long suspected, that the Jersey ticket-holder base has been growing steadily for at least the past 20 years, since the move from Shea. If Cross says "half of our season-ticket base is in New Jersey," it's probably no less than 50% and probably more than 50%. And once the team moves to its new facility, the Jersey base percentage will undoubtedly get even larger.
An "insane" busride is from NYC to Malibu, CA, sitting next to some 15 year old girl on a cell phone as the guy next to you scratches his balls. I wouldn't categorize the less than 50 mile trip, during off-peak hours, as "insane." Maybe they stop halfway during the bus rides now, just to get out hit a local hotel for some shut eye, stretch a little.
Life's a bitch. To think, they pay you millions a year, you get to retire before the age of 35, and in return they ask that you get on a bus for an hour- what a-holes.
Exactly what I was going to touch on. I dont know, and this is my own speculation, but I would bet that the majority(50%+) of the waitlist is from NJ and when the new stadium is built, those people will get tickets and the ratio will continue to grow in favor of the NJ fan base. This thing makes sense, it makes sense for both teams to build a stadium together, and it makes sense to be close to the stadium. NY was given a shot and the politicians wanted nothing to do with the team, except continue to collect tax money off them, but thats garbage and the team/Woody did what they thought was in their best interest and the best interest of the players, consolidate operations to one state, and simplify. My guess is a lot of this is posturing, there are a lot of negotiations taking place and you have to anchor certain situations which really matter and fluff others which you will concede on, but make the other side think you are giving in so that they will give in on something as well. Basically a lot of noise for now. The Mara's/Giants are not saints, they want to make their money off of this as well, and defer as much of the costs as they can. If more advertising leads to more profit for them, they will concede, its just a matter of what else they want in exchange. My guess bottom line, this is all to see who's architechts win the jobs, who gets say over contractor selections, lots of details which we dont really care about, but any potential controversary gets blown up by the media and the negotiators as well, they use the media to try to sway the other side. I find it hard to believe that basic stadium concepts where not discussed before both sides got into bed togetehr on this one. Way to much at stake to not agree on a rough sketch before signing on for this.
I know, that's my point though. The Giants just have to walk out of their bubble to get to the stadium. The Jets' shouldn't have to travel as far as they do to get to the stadium.
OH MY GOD! Not Manhattan! They have dragons and pits of fire in Manhattan- you're lucky to make it out alive! Get over it fellas- it's a commute they make once a week over a 17 week period. You should all have it so easy.
C'mon Koz, You are right, we should all have it so easy. Its not a matter of what they will do, but why do it if you dont have to. Now the players, CS and anyone else involved with the team can buy a place in Summit, or Short Hills, Essex Fells, Bernarndsville, Mendham, Chatham, wherever in beautiful NJ, and be at the training camp facility in 15 minutes and be at the stadium in a half hour -45 minutes. If you could live and work within 30 minutes, wouldnt you choose to, especially if you are making millions. I worked in Manhattan for years, its not that big of a deal, but if you dont have to deal with it unless you want to, its nice.
I agree with you- in a perfect world, the guys live and workout within 1/2 hour of the stadium, and that's certainly going to happen. It's just that right now, the sacrifice of hopping on a bus once a week isn't that big of a deal, but if I was a player, I'd certainly be onboard with the "everything in Jersey" argument.
