"the SD WR's are just too tall! no way the Jets CB can cover them! They're just so tall" Bonus!! "I like Inge a lot. I really like Inge. I like him a lot. I like Inge a lot. I really like Inge. I like him a lot. I like Inge a lot. I really like Inge. I like him a lot."
I think Revis's problem might be more of an NFL problem. There hasn't been one 1st rd. pick signed yet. It's getting kind of late, don't you think?
I think Ducasse is the only player in the top 2 rounds that has signed, unless I've missed someone in the last couple of days.
Revis knows the jets can get around the so called 'limitations' by scratching a $25M+ check for a 'signing bonus'. AND the signing bonus does not have to be paid all at once. The jets can pay it over 5 years. It's the same as guaranteed money but doesn't count as such towards the contract wording. So the 'problem' isn't so much 'limitations', the 'problem' is the uncertainty of the NFL landscape over the next few years.
Wow.....I didnt realize that either..it is late. Not one? While I totally agree that this is an NFL problem...signing dbrick was a great move to lighten the pressure of all the bullshit that the Jets do not take care of their own. Very smart move to pick one of the core 4 other than Revis.
At this point last season there were only 2 first round picks signed - Sanchez and Stafford. The fact that Bradford's agents have only just started negotiations is the reason for the delay.
Did your boss go on television and tell the entire business world that you are the best in the entire industry at what you do? Even the one guy in the industry that makes the most money in your field?
not one 1st rounder and the elite players in the NFL can't get new contracts. Revis' situation isn't special. The uncertainty in the league is fucking everything up.
This was my thought as well. I can't wait for the season to start, when there are legitimate things for these guys to write about.
why are you trying to correlate this to the real world? its just not possible... Hell I want to see one guy walk into his bosses office and go, "Hey Mike, yeah listen, I believe I have outperformed my current salary, I want a 1500% increase, my numbers bear this out, I push more papers faster than anyone else in the building, and that guy, John, on floor 18 makes exactly 1420% more than I do, so I need a raise to be paid more than him since I outperformed him this quarter. Whatcha think Mike?" and yes 1500% is the increase Revis is reportedly asking for, a jump from 1 million to 16 million this year, or 15 million, which equates to 1500% above his current salary.
That was... kind of the point of my post. Jets n Boys was trying to correlate it to the real world. It's not comparable to a situation most of us would experience in our working life.
I saw one report that if things get bad enough there could be a stoppage this year? Is there any truth to that?
yeah. if they can't come to an agreement the owners will lockout the players and there will be no 2011 season. Or maybe a shortened season.
Yeah I know about 2011, but this report said no 2010 season if the players feel it to be necessary. (or the NFLPA I should say)
oh shit I didn't see that one. I can't see them not playing this season when its less than 2 months away. The backlash from fans would be huge.
As of yesterday this was still a true statement. Not sure if anyone has signed today. Revis, Manning, Brady all have made little progress on extensions. None of the top guys are gettign thier money ATM due to the no cap rules and lack of CBA certainty. Seeing as our QB and half of our skill players on offense went out west to work together I think this is all reporters making shit up because they have nothing else to write about untill camp starts.
