As a person from Jersey who thinks he's a bigger fan than you regardless of what you may say, I'd like to say shut the f*** up.
^ But the deep fried turkey, stew and hot totties were sure tasty at the tailgate prior to the game!!
That's a poor assessment in my opinion. You can find fanatics anywhere. The perception of Green Bay is that there's nothing else going on there, so people rally around the team. How true this is I have absolutely no idea, but that's certainly my understanding. I can guarantee you'll find fans that leave there early, but not as many. As for college games, I don't know what college games you've been watching that you feel that way. Most people would probably say Notre Dame is one of those teams that people wouldn't leave early, but that stadium can empty out in a hurry in a blowout in either direction. And I'm talking about the 9-3 years under Weis when I was at every game, not this current BS. NY fans get a bad rap (and apparently NJ fans from that jackass from NY that posted earlier), but it's hardly warranted.
...for real? I'm not allowed to let one slide once per decade? I owe nothing to this team. How about the fact that my New York Jets Reeboks were completely soaked through, even with me wearing ziploc bags over my socks. Or that my fingers were so numb I couldn't even answer the text messages telling me how shitty the team was playing. I didn't have my circulation back even an hour after getting home, i had to take an hour long hot shower to feel better. Should I have just went full on hypothermia/frostbite so I could be there for all 60 minutes of my team playing like shit? Sorry. I've attended more or less 119 of the last 120 home games, and finally left one early because I couldn't take the cold anymore. My team deserves a better brand of fan than me.
Why? You paid for the tickets, do what you want with them. You don't owe anything to a team and I hate anyone that thinks that way. It's flat out dumb. We'd owe them if they didn't make ridiculous amounts of money. But they do. Maybe if this was a college game or a high school game, fine. But get away from the damn sob story.
I thought I saw you, at least based off of the garbage dump pic, but I wasn't about to walk up to a stranger and ask if he was "17a."
After half time most of the people in the 100's section seemed to be in the last few rows covered under the 200's section so it seemed like more people left then they actually did. The majority of the fans left after they scored to make it 34-17
I tell you, I had it rough yesterday. Sitting by the pool under the lanai, 60 degrees out. But I watched till the end.
I guess we'll have to wait for the 99 year lease on the new stadium to end before the team gets another chance to move back to NY and have good attendance again.
If you actually pay for a ticket, parking, gas/tolls/mass transit to get there, pay for tailgate food, food/drinks in the stadium, or otherwise arrange to eat drink, I think you're done with your obligation to the team. The Jets don't require you to stay for the whole game, so if you have something else to do, feel sick, cold, bored, tired, etc, I say go on home. Yes, it's great having a packed, roaring house. I've been to all games except yesterday this season (having the flu is my excuse, so I was shivering on my couch whilst you all shivered in the seats). I've stayed until the end of the rest of the regular games except once leaving with a few minutes left in the 4th quarter the game I caught the bus (I did leave the preseason games early, though). But I certainly don't think that makes me tougher or better or anything that folks who decided not to come or who left early. People are paying for this stuff as a leisure activity, and I think their hard earned money and precious time is theirs to decide how to use.
Honestly, I have way less of a problem with this than I did with all the people who sold their tickets to Steeler fans at that game last year. Now THAT is a dick move. I'd rather see a ton of empty seats than a home game with 50% of the spectators rooting for the other team.
I think I agree with you there. The last two Jets/Steelers games I attended felt like Steeler home games. I guess my logic above should make me say the paying fan has a right to sell their seats, but it sucks seeing terrible towels all over the freaking place. I remember that snow game a couple years ago against the steelers. So many fans left (I don't really hold that against them, per se, since the snow was terrible. But my friend was willing to drive, so we stayed). But by the end it seemed the entire lower bowl was packed with Steeler fans and those f'ing towels. That was a bit demoralizing.
Yeah. Sometimes my phone isn't spacing now and I have to press the numbers twice sometimes. It's annoying but I'm due for an upgrade in 2 weeks.
I'd like to thank all of you who have chosen to participate in this discussion... Especially you season ticket holders! I hope I have been able to contribute to this lively discussion by asking some pertinent questions and all... Whatever I said, as I said before, wasn't so much aimed at criticizing individual fans, but more at the Jets fans in general. Look, it's a cliché already that most New York City ticketholders (especially in the best seats) are corporations, and not your average football fans. In fact, this looks to get much worse with the Personal Seat Licenses and the increase in ticket prices for this new stadium... So I have to state the obvious, as everyone else has been doing for the last 20 years or so--that New York teams are hampered by the lack of a true "home crowd" who roots for their team through thick and thin, no matter what. I think we've already seen how most NYC fans don't want to deal with the "thick" part (i.e. bad weather), and we saw last year about the "thin" part (when Jets fans stayed away in droves when the team was losing). The Yankees have enjoyed a strong fan base (especially in the bleachers, where I used to reside when they were $1.50 a pop!), but this will end with this new corporate stadium monster they've built... I've also noticed that almost everyone is dodging the part I brought up about "individual responsibility" as it pertains to fandom... Honestly, if we had 30,000 strong at the Meadowlands who made noise no matter what, who stayed thorugh thikc and thin, and behaved like Kansas City fans used to, the way Cowboy fans often do, the way Buffalo fans do (no matter how bad the weather)... The Jets would win another game or two every year. I'm not blaming you fans who go there, honest! I think the people who post here are probably the same people who actually cheer during games! But... I think it's obvious that there are so many rich people/corporate types at each game that it dilutes the rooting sections. Just a thought for those of you lucky enough to actually go to Jets games from someone who does not have the resources to do so...
Normally phones are alright once they dry out. My friend's phone got wet but it was fine by this morning.
But it sure was fun showing the Steeler fans the door when they lost to us!!!! I made sure they remembered they lost to a bad Jets team.
