one thing im digging is the "this thread sucks" or "thread belongs lesewhere" hasnt come up. i think its good to know how those around you and consider themselves die hard are from...just me....maybe....
I'm a Jets fan since 1980, because that is when I was born and my grandpa was a Jets season ticket holder since the Jets became the Jets. But really, I can actually remember games from around 84 or 85, and I guess that is when I really started becoming a fan.
I grew up watching games with my Dad and he brought me to my first game at Shea in the early 70s. I acquired my own season tickets almost 20 years ago and have been returning the favor and bringing him ever since. My daughter and my son are starting to come to odd games with us so the trend will continue for better or worse...
I think it was around '88 or so, when I was old enough to get what I was watching. I've always been predisposed to root for the underdog, and the Jets were mostly crappy during my childhood. I think uniforms also had something to do with it, and when you're a little kid that stuff comes into play. Most of all, the Jets were exciting. You knew what you were going to get with Parcells Giants. The Jets were always "finally ready to get out of the cellar." I remember when they made the playoffs in 1991 after beating the Dolphins in OT. I think that sealed it. -X-
I actually owe mine to ESPN classic. When I was younger, I liked basketball a lot, and it was easy to root for MJ and the Bulls when I lived in Louisiana. Then I moved to Georgia when I was 5, and for some reason had some grudge against all things Georgia, so I decided not to like UGA or Tech or the Falcons, but never had anything against the Braves. Like a previous poster, I love the underdog thing, I guess except for MJ. The SB III win game film over the Colts did it for me. The whole guarantee, being huge underdogs, new league, you guys know the story. It was when I was really starting to pay attention to football and I was searching for a team to root for that wasn't the Falcons, the 2000-01 season (when the Ravens won) was the year. That season I think every win was a 4th quarter comeback haha. Plus, nothing bad ever came from a little green
Well being a UK fan i had no real Territorial reason for supporting any team in the NFL. But I got into American Football in the Early 80's the season the Patriots made it to the Superbowl and got stuffed by the Bears. Anyway my Uncle was being a glory hunter and following the Pats and the game we was watching was against the Jets. I liked the Color (sad reason i know) and I wanted to root against my Uncle so I went for the Jets and have not looked back since. Without the pain you would not feel the glory when it comes, and it will come....sometime.....I hope......
I would never ever have picked the Jets to be my team , never in a billion years. They picked me. I would like to know how many people actually picked the Jets , or like me got roped in? Do I regret it? Yes/no. Yes, because I truely believe that no other fan feels the love and pain more than a Jets fan. No, I don't ever regret it , the more I meet and chat with other Jets fans , the more I realise that we are genetically superior to other fans. Well nearly all
Yeah we're pretty much in the same boat , 'cept you've won something. Next time down sarf I'll look you up mate hmy: NUFC away to TottHot???
My buddy has season tickets and his family was wealthy. He use to take his friends to games for free. I started going to games around 1990. In 97 his familly wasn't so wealthy anymore and his dad was sick so his mom decided she was going to just let the tickets go and not tell us. It was about 1 week before the money was due I called everyone I knew until I got enough folks to buy the tickets. I have been in charge of those tickets ever since.
I like rooting for the underdawgz. My experience started with tailgating a Browns (friends from Ohio) game in Diego (before they were dismantled)Vinny T was the QB, CMART for his performance with Parcell's(my favorite coach at the time) Pats and Key (USC BABY) because some of my family are alum I gravitated towards his career which led him to theganggreen....also goin to New York in 92 solidified my decision toward a rebellious attitude torward a shitty Raider dominant coast....
I was born in brooklyn, but i didnt even know about football till i was in the 7thgrade and 5 miami dolphins players came to my school and i was one of 20 kids that got to paint a mural with them. They had a couple of reporters there and i was asked about how it made me feel that they were at my school, then they asked me who do i think is gunna win in the Jet Dolphin game on monday night (i dont remember which one i answered) But i accidentlly stumbled on the dolphin Jet game on TV around 10 pm. I saw the next 2 hours as the game ended around 12:30 Since that monday night miracle game i havent missed one game...... GO JETS!
The Jets were the worst team in the league. I felt sorry for them and decided I would root for them. I started really getting in to them as they started to improve. I've watched every single Jets game since.
how do you grow up in america and not know about football until 7th grade? and those phish players didnt try to touch you did they?
Became a Jets fan as a teenager back in the Joe Namath days - he was a bit of a rebel and a non-conformist - so am I - and that's what attracted me first to the Jets.
