There is a scenario where the Jets could possibly control their own destiny heading into Week 17 at Buffalo. Week 15 results: Jets win, Steelers lose, Bengals lose. All teams would be at 7-7 at that point. Week 16 results: Jets win, Bengals win. Jets would be 8-7, Bengals 8-7, Steelers would be 7-8. Jets SOV right now is 40.2% vs. Cincy of 35.1%. Won't know until after this week's games how the SOV will shake out at that point but it's possible the Jets could have that tiebreaker clinched by Week 16. On the other hand a Bengal win vs. the Eagles and the Jets would not control their own destiny.
It'll be hard to control our own destiny because Bengals win over Steelers and a potential one over Ravens gives them a lot of SOV wins vs Jets wins over relatively poor competition (4 wins, 4 wins, 5 wins vs. 7 wins and 9 wins).
Bengals victories: Cleveland: 5 wins Giants: 8 wins Redskins: 7 wins Jacksonville: 2 wins Oakland: 3 wins Kansas City: 2 wins San Diego: 5 wins. Not exactly a roaring indictment of SOV. Our SOV is actually a lot higher than theirs as of right now, believe it or not.
That's 32 wins for CIN We have: Bills (5), Dolphins (5), Colts (9), Rams (6.5), Cardinals (4) and Jaguars (2) for a total of 31.5 wins for NYJ In the scenario where we win out and CIN loses to PHI and wins over PIT and BAL (which is the only scenario where SOV comes into play), we have: 7 wins for PIT, 9 wins for BAL, or +16 4 wins for TEN, 5 wins for SD, 5 wins for BUF or +14 SOV wins for CIN = 48 SOV wins for NYJ = 45.5 So we're actually behind and have 2 weeks to get enough SOV wins to be up 4.5 before then. (max that CIN can catch up in week 17's SOV wins is 4). That means we have to be +7 vs CIN SOV wins in the next two weeks, which is doable, but that's a lot of results going our way.
True. However, if it becomes even for some reason, it goes right into strength of schedule. And guess who has the hardest schedule...
Unless there's another tie in the NFL in the next 3 weeks involving exactly one of the teams that either the Jets or Bengals have one win over, this is very unlikely.
You're right. But, if the number of wins from our opponents and the Bengals opponents are equal, the Jets SOV will be greater thanks to that tie.
If Pitt and cincy lose this week and tie eachother week 16, we would ocntrol our own destiny going into buffalo. Its gonna happen just like that
You don't have to be rude... Personally, a more likely scenario is that Pitt and Cincy loses the next two out of three. Of course, don't forget about an Indy collapse.
