Ah well man that stuff happens.....happened to Seattle in the SB...happened to Buffalo twice up in Buffalo in 2005 against us and they still won.... I just didn't like seeing Vilma get eaten up on that play...
I am watching the second quarter now...you gotta like smith's mobility....maybe he does leave the pocket early, but he gives us a dimension we haven't had before...I still like him as a WR and situational QB tho.... Pouha gets the double team but it was hard to tell if he really demands it.....he gets no push into the backfield....its like he comes out of his stance and runs into a wallthen bounces off it 3 or 4 times....didn't really move forward......plus he only has like 15lbs on D-Rob so I don;t see him being an upgrade....solid backup and good in the 4-3 I guess.... Jacob Bender does look good....I bet he wills tick and be the starting RT, if not this season then next.... Barnes has some wheels...watch him get across the field on Kellen's handoff to Leon...the outside rush tot he left where Leon spins Kellen needs to be more accurate.....throws get there but not where they need to be, he's no Peyton Manning
Like jTuds I'm watching the torrent and have just finished watching the 1st quarter, also watched our first TD drive. Robertson looked shakey on the first drive,he got pushed around a bit,but he bounced back with a great 2nd series. He commanded the double team and stood his ground,he did a great job of that on the stopped 3rd and 1 where Coleman made the tackle. Kenyon Coleman is definitely an improvement over Kimo, but I wasn't that impressed with him.He does lose a little bit of ground on run plays, but he doesn't get blown off the ball like Kimo did.He looked pretty good against the pass though. Vilma had a good quarter,he read the plays well and flowed to the ball and made at least two tackles within one yard of the line of scrimmage. But he also didn't have to take on any blockers till the TD play.Barton looks like he gets the 3-4 now,he knows what gap to fill and as such found himself one on one with the ball carrier to make some nice tackles. We showed some flexibility on the defense.Twice on 3rd down situations Ellis lined up on the Nose with Robertson on his right.Robertson gets good pressure from this set up,especially when he ran a stunt with Ellis.Another time we basicly lined up with 3 OLB.Ellis,Robertson and Coleman HAd their hands down,Thomas was on the left,Barton in between Ellis and Robertson,Hobsaon outside Coleman with Vilma to his right. It looked like a blitz but the falcons ran a draw so it was hard to guage how effective it would of been.Vilma did stop the play for no gain. I liked what little I saw of Adrien Clarke. He pancaked his man on the first play ,on the second play he succesfully managed to pull to the right and block a defender. It's quite impressive how quickly he moves for such a big man. It's been a good quarter for him.Kendall also looked good on his drive apart form one play when he failed to block a blitzing LB,that LB then dropped Leon for no gain. I agree with Jtuds when saying that D'brick looks better run blocking, partly because he's being used better. He has the speed and athleticism to get to the second level and when he got there he blocks a would be tackler. But he still made some mistakes,I counted two times that his defender beat his block and got after the ball carrier. He does look better but he still has a long way to go. The rest of the o-line looked a bit better than last year.Mangold looks stronger and was able to push around a few linemen.Moore and Clements didn't make any mistakes and also made a few plays,Moore got to the second level a few times and Clements bullied John Abraham about 7 yards downfield on a play. It's not that good a line though, they don't open any big holes and there almost always a line backer free at the second level. The running backs have to work hard to pick up yardage. Wasn't too impressed by Darian Barnes. He missed a few blocks and probably made the blocks that BJ Askew could make. But he does give the defender a good thump unlike Askew, which could be usefull in the 4th quarter when the defense is tired.
Can't read all of this. It was a good opening pre-season game. Clemens looked pretty good. Stuckey seems like there is some real potential there. Did you see how good Chad looked handing off in the first quarter; I mean, wow! We are going to have a great season.
If they were all like Mangold I think they'd be a good line. But it doesn't look liek we really have a billdozer in there that can just plough a guy down field. I don;t think Brick was intended to be that either, I think he was meant to improve the pass protection and improve that side of the line ingeneral, but from a run-blocking perspective it wasn't his strength in college. he ahd better pick up some run blocking ability here in NY though because. That said, I think he run blocked better than some other linemen did on Friday. I think our RBs will have to work pretty hard and eat up little bits of yardage at a time...maybe against the poor run defending teams they can get some bigger chunks...
Agree. Clemens picked it up after the early stages of the first series. He made good decisions and looked pretty confident for a guy who hasn't seen a lot of playing time. He should work on throwing spirals. The Smith experiment should end soon. "Sticky" will allow us to move Jmac if Denver has a good enough offer.
Notes ~The Good Jones looks great Leon Washington looked like he was running a mile a minute, seemed super elusive but cant seem to break or shed tackles. Clemens played smart and didnt look as jittery as he did in last years preseason games, he started slow, missing targets, but got into rhythm and threw 9 straight completions. Barton seemed to be playing well, but was juked twice and caught out of position a few times, but his predecessor Harris played strong throughout his entire first game, looks like hes tough enough to handle a long season run Sean Ryans got Good hands and Sam Ryan is HOT!!! I hope she continues her sideline reports. The Aussie can Still tackle, apparently so can Nuge Clemens TD pass was #9 on sports center highlights:up: Were there any penalties called on the Jets? Overall I love the mangini mantra and everything he does with these players and how it is playing into the jets depth chart. It seems to be bringing out each players best. ~The Bad Kerry Rhodes was out of position on a few plays and didn?t make the plays which cost the jets a couple of first downs and he was caught out of position on the falcons only TD :drunk: Banks Did Not Impress at all, but Ware looked better Saw some dumb ass plays by clark Spencer played slow and didn?t seem like he always knew what he was doing Brad Smith was given a complete drive as a Jet QB and did not impress at all, I hope they don?t loose faith in him either. His drive was bad, but that was a bad example of what he can do for the jets as a slash performer. The ball was wet, but the jets seemed pretty sure handed except for tutt, smith, and drew coleman when it hit him in the hands, He made up for it later though?. ~The Ugly Wallace wright and stuckey both seem very sure handed, stuckey with the agility and speed and wright with the experience and height, too bad we cant find 1 player to substitute both. Since when Can Nugent kick a TB?
That's me watched the 2nd and 3rd quarters now. David Harris looks really really good.He seems to know where the play is going before the ball is snapped and he then just flies right into the middle of things to disrupt the play.He looks good taking on and shedding blocks, and he has a nice burst of speed when blitzing and in coverage. We could have a real good player here, and I'd say he's been the most impressive player of the game so far. Looks like Kellen Clemmens has some pocket presence,he can stand in the pocket but knows when to get the ball out of there before the sack. Jacob Bender looked good in pass protection until late in the 3rd quarter when he got sloppy on two plays(giving up a pressure on 1 play). His run blocking was nothing to write home about. Adrien Clark didn't really stand out in the rest of the game but he didn't make mistakes either. He outplayed Kendall in my opinion and I'm looking forward to watching more of him. Sione Pohua didn't impress. He doesn't draw double teams and got pushed around a bit.But at least he didn't get blown off the ball like D-rob was early last year.He might improve with playing time. I know you like him Thunderbird but Michael Haynes will have to do more to earn a roster spot.He did get nice pressure on the interception(so did Mosley though) but apart fro that he didn't stand out and looked a bit out of place in the 3-4.Remember Ellis,Coleman,Hicks,Hamilton and Kimo all saw time before Haynes got on the field.
The more i watch, the more I keep thinking "this Stucky kids reminds me of Coles". Wright impressed me as well. I'm either getting delusional or Stucky gonna be a good one. Our depth at WR looks very good to say the least. How did he fall so far in the draft??
David Barrett has stepped up his game from last year...considerably. Drew Coleman was a nice suprise for me. I did not think much of him last year but he was in two nice plays with decent field awareness if I remember correctly. How about David Harris? He is one hell of a pick up for this squad! Barton looks comfortable for once making me like where our LB's are at this early in the preseason.
This is good stuff Maybe we see BT,Barton,Harris and Vilma on the feild at the same time in a pass rush look.
Could be mistaken but I think there were injury concerns. Hard to believe that it could have been the only reason though.
Just finished watching the 4th quarter. Jacob Bender gave up another pressure on Frisman Jacksons one handed catch. Schlegel didn't look bad against the run.And Wadsworth looked good,he gave the LT a lot of problems and almost got a sack on his 3rd play.I'd like see Wadsworth with the second team,he looked a lot more impressive than Cody Spencer.Of course the problem facing Schlegel and Wadsworth is that they are on the 3rd team and probably won't make the team as it stands.
