Again you can't judge any Raider QB ,or offense for that matter, as raiders coaching staff was that bad last year. Not to mention when offense losses it top three Wrs, how is it not goint to struggle. Lets see randy Moss(didn't wan't to be there- didn't even try) Jerry Porter( shell doghouse was inactivated all year) and R Curry(raiders were verycareful for most of the year coming back from achilles injury.
He also seems to put more stock into reports from practice than a pre-season game. who knows what goes through this guys head.
Based on the number of QBs Oakland has brought in this offseason, I think the Andrew Walter experiment has been put on hiatus.
NO reason they did that(run ball) they don't want to risk Pennington getting hit. Know they don't have capable backup- reason they moved Brad smith to Qb, because they know Clemens is not the answer this year. Maybe mangini came up with a new defense. You let the QB have all the time he wants. Than let him hyperventilate over having so many Wr wide open.
Well to be fair going against jet starting defense, is like going against third and fourth stringers on any other team. So K Clemens did improve.
Heres my opinion (take it with a grain of salt) Im only commenting on what we saw of the guys that actually matter, not third-fourth string bozos. I love the CS not calling a pass play for Pennington. Keeps him healthy, works on improving our run game, plus it doesnt give away any secrets. Its just a exhibition so who gives a crap whether we win on lose, working on developing our run game is more important. Next going along with that, I was pretty impressed with our run game. Obviously the stats dont show it, but it was painfully obvious we werent going to pass and it made it easier for the defense. Atlanta called several run blitzes and got us a few times (naturally, I mean this isnt high school, you can expect to gain yardage running EVERY down) Brick bulked up a lot and I made a point to watch him run block and he did decent. Defensively, I thought our front 7 was stout. Coleman was awesome, and our LB corps was great. Secondary left a lot to be desired though. SIGN REVIS!! Harrington made some nice completions over Rhodes' head (could it have been his fault or was he getting left our to dry by our crappy CBs??) Special teams was awesome, but Atlanta's kick coverage is HORRIBLE. Had Miller have played, we could have seen 3 Kickoff returns for TDS easily. Someone is losing their jobs for Atlanta, that was horrible. Also, I do want to say that Clemens was not as good as the stats may show. He might have played the worst 3TD game ever in fact. the 40 yarder to McCariens was a complete lob, and actually shoulda been Offensive Pass interference. I thought he was supposed to have a strong arm? If Pennington had thrown a meatball like that the "Noodle Arm" comments would be back. He did have a complete good fade throws in the end zone, but overall I think Atlanta's young CBs made him look better than he is.
I think what I love the most about Joseph's posts are... We didn't have R. Moss #84 J. Porter, R. Curry...What's with the 1st initial? And why can't we have a 40 time in front of the name?
A walter will probably find his way to IR. Give him a year to get over the beating he took last year. A Walter going to be a good Qb in this league.
That is one of the great mysteries of life. You'd think there were multiple Mosses, Porters, and Currys on the Raiders.
Did you see Joe harrington look Great last night, or fact that Falcons Wr were getting open rather routinely. Again who considers Falcons WR to be good group. How about some of those big lanes Falcons Rb were running through. How about that pass rush Jet were unleashing on Falcons. 256 Mississsippi. Yes i can now rush the QB. Watch the replay of the game and tell me how first string defense looked.
In defense of the Jets defense, the secondary was missing some key players last night (namely Revis, Miller, and Smith).
Actually I haven't been able to watch the game yet, so no I haven't seen it. The fact that Harrington lit it up on our defense is not a good sign nor was the fact that the falcons ran so well. But I suppose you believe our defense was pulling out all the stops and not playing "vanilla" like the Falcons were. I'd like to know how many blitzes we actually ran. As I'm sure you know, the pressure in the 3-4 comes from sending the 4th guy from a LB or S position. From the minimal highlights I saw, we were rushing 3 every time. But answer my question, do you really believe the falcons 3rd and 4th string defense is better than the Jets starting defense or are you just trolling? And for the record, he played against the 2nd string as well. Your arguments are consistently ridiculous, and I don't know why I'm even bothering with you. I guess I'm just bored. You'll point something out to benefit your ridiculous arguments but discount the same exact point from the other point of view.
Yea, they drafted Jamarcus Russell #1 over Calvin Johnson to give Walter a rest. Wow. Oh I forgot, they have R. Curry. My bad.
Justin "I can't cover anyone" Miller was a lost for who- the Falcons offense. Revis nobody knows how guys going to turn out. Guy could be eventually good, but most every rookie Cb struggle in their first year. Smith the safety was missed, as he could have taken care of Alge Crumpler the allproTe(any only passing threat Falcons have) on the sidelines.
But what about the camp reports of Miller doing well in coverage Joe? I suppose those hold no merit now.
Okay Honestly do I think Jets defense is as bad as some other teams third and fourth string defense? Obviously no. Do I think jets defense is any good. NO when you can't stop the run, can't rush the QB(without Gimmick blitzes), and basically made your best defender(J Vilma) a non factor. What other conclusions can you drawn. Unbelievable they actually call this guy mangini a Genius. Wasn't his specialty suppose to be defense. maybwe we know why he wanted Rob ryan now.
So now sending a 4th guy on a blitz in the 3-4 is nothing more than a "gimmick"? You clearly just don't understand. Again, what about the fact that the Jets were running vanilla defense? Genius is a wildly overused term in the sports world.
Look I wasn't at camp, but heres my guess why Miller look good. HE Knows Jets offense. What he does well defend the short passing game, suits his game very well, against Jets offense. Even when he bites on double moves Chad Pennington balls hang up there ,that he has enough speed to get back.
