You're completely missing the point. What he's saying is that it wasn't last nights performance that sold him on Clemens. Your response is to completely downplay yesterdays performance as insignificant. What does that have to do with anything? Regardless of who he was playing against last night, he showed significant improvement over last preseason which is a plus for any young QB. Your negativity towards him is based on what?? He is improving as an NFL QB which is all we can ask of him right now. Does anyone think he's the next John Elway? No, but he has shown significant improvement over how he played against NFL second stringers last season. Stop hating for the sake of hating.
Show me when I implied you became a Kelly clemens fans last night. The reason I did that was that maybe you finally opened your eyes and realized that Tuiasosucko is not going to win the #2 spot. Just because he is an ex-Raider it doesn't mean he is any good.
I was very impressed with the second and third teams. The first teams didn't look as great but its hard to look good when you run the ball 12 consecutive times and then leave the game.
Tui sucks man. It's just the way it is. He'll never be a number 2 on this team unless Clemens or Penny get injured. It's that simple. Look at the stat lines of last nights game if you need anymore proof. Tui will probably be out of the league next year.
Another thing that impressed me was the lack of penalties. That is really rare for a first pre-season game. I think there were two (one of those on special teams). These guys are really disciplined. Kudos to Mangini for that, I think it says something and will make a difference in W-L's over the season.
No your missing the point and don't understand the Debate I had with cakes over K Clemens. First he tried to claim, I thought K Clemens was going to be a bust. Never said that. All I said with K clemens lack of experience , it was hard to see him winning the number two Qb job. Cakes position was thats crazy they invested a high draft choice in clemens for a reason. K Clemens has one good game- albeit against third and fourth stringers, and that justifies his believe, that without a doubt hes going to be number 2 QB.( Yet we didn't hear a word from cakes, when K clemens was struggling mightly from campreports. Again lets see what happens next week and if cakes says anything if Clemens struggles.
That's chiefly because I have paid very little attention to camp reports this year (too busy). I'll be watching the preseason games, however. If Clemens sucks next Friday, I'll write about it.
Hard to say what Clemens is or how good he will be. He was very decent last night probably played better than Chad has in any game except IND last year, granted against scrubs in a meaningless game. He is clearly the No. 2 QB on this team this year. Hopefully he moves ahead of Chad on the depth chart at some point early this year. If he does it just means the Jets will be better than they were with an upgrade at the key position. Getting a chance to play for serious minutes even in less than real game conditions and performing is a plus, he is clearly ahead of Russell.
Maybe Tuiasosopo not going to win number two spot with Jets, but you can't say he was giving the same chance. Again just because Clemens looked decent against third and fourth stringers, means he ready to be number 2 Qb in the league. Only way your going to find that out, if Chad pennington goes out with injury. Than we will see if Mangini made the wise choice. MY position is Clemens is not ready to assume second QB job. Hopefully Jet fans don't find out how right I am. (pennington stays healthy) For example. You ask Nick saban the one regeret he had with Dolphins. Saban would tell you he would have signed Drew brees over a gimpy D culpepper. (thats after the fact ) Clemens coulsd get number 2 job but that dosen't mean it was right decision.

Again I don't know what Clemens is eventually going to be as a QB. The point is you can't tell me hes a capable number 2 QB at this point. He was Decent last night, but until you see him against first string defenses, I think you have to be carefully of not overrating him. From campreports he was a dissapointment, and some speculate reason why Brad Smith been shifted to QB. To me having K Clemens as my number 2 QB would be a scary proposition. Yes Clemens is ahead of russell in development, but jamarcus russell is not number 2 QB this year. Josh Mccown and Dante Culpepper will be either one or two QB and Russell the third QB. At least for first half) Josh Mccown and Andrew walter have more starting experience than K Clemens . K Clemens has yet to start one game.
Yea But Culpepper has had two years to recover from his injury. Big diffrence. From Camp reports, while rusty has thrown ball very well. Just can he get the playbook down by time season starts. IF Not Josh McCown will get the nod. Very mobile athlethic QB. Raiders QBs don't have to be great this year. All they have to do is protect the ball and let the defense take care of the rest. Defense was good last year but has chance to go next level this year. Raiders will easily win eight games next year.
Really wish the Tui Vs. Clemons debate could have its own thread. It's been a while since anyone posted anything about last nights game.
Raiderjoe also thought that Andrew Walter would be a good QB, and that Aaron Brooks was an asset at the QB position. I can't say I really care for his opinion on our QBs.
At this point, I don't think there is anything to add that hasn't already been mentioned. With regular season games it is good to talk about them the following day, but then we move on to the next game. Analyzing preseason games should be worth a half day of talk, if that.
I love Raiderjoe's argument about vanilla defense's as if Schotty JR was pulling out every stop with his amazing 12 run plays in a row call. the holding back the playbook works on both sides in preseason.
