The extension gives Ramsey a little security, and basically gives both penny and ramsey a 1 year window to see which one has what it takes to lead the jets in the short term. If they both are horrible they could keep one around to mentor Clemons, but if thats the case I expect Chad P to stay.
The last thing this does is go toward confirming Ramsey is a starter. A 2.1M extension with NO SIGNING BONUS is not a commitment in the NFL. This is a WIN situation for the Jets. All they had to do is pre-pay 250K of Ramsey's salary this year (they were paying it anyway unless they cut him) as ROSTER BONUS (that's key here, no cap commitment in 2007) in order to get the deal. If Ramsey thought he was the starter, no way he signs for backup money with no commitment.
I agree. We extend a statue that failed in DC because he threw so many INTS and we seem to be jettisioning our most mobile QB. Makes sense to anti-Bollinger fans!
You do realize mobility is Bollinger's only attribute worth anything, football wise, right? Unless we plan on deploying the option this year, Bollinger is not needed.
Bollinger was a Hackett pick. That's been known since it was made. Bollinger was not on many draft boards.
He did? I don't judge based on stats alone. Yippee, we were behind so he chucked it on every down. He hit Jolley on a pass that Jolley made the play on and Bollinger gets all the yardage credit.
It's a 250K roster bonus and 1.438M of salary in 2006. It's then 600K base salary and 1.5M roster bonus due in 2007 NFLPA.org lays out his salaries. There is NO CAP HIT IN 2007 if he's cut prior to march, and there is only a 250K cap hit if he's cut this year.
I wish I have been in the jungles of SE Asia. I'm not a darksider at all, I'm just a realist. Furthermore, I watch no football in the New York Market as I live in VA and am forced to watch Redskins and Ravens first and foremost. So I'm not sure what you are getting at with all that, but hey I guess you are still getting aclimated to this place. Basically my negativity stems from the fact that I don't expect Pennington to make it through the year and if he does, I don't expect him to play many more seasons. I think that is a realistic expectation at this point. And on to the rebuttals... Palmer absolutely has a 100x better of a chance to last in the NFL than Pennington. He had a less major surgery. Yeah, he shredded his knee, but Pennington basically has no right shoulder at this point. Not to mention the fact that he is younger and better than Pennington so it is laughable to see anyone try to say the Bengals have it worse than us. The Titans in my opinion are in a better situation, if only ever so slightly. Obviously a healthy Pennington is better than a healthy Volek but right now basically as far as I know, Volek is going to go out there and throw the ball all over tha place, he might get you 400 yards or 200 yards, he might get you a win or a loss. Pennington ain't throwing for 400 yards anytime soon, he has yet to prove he can carry the team on his one good shoulder (not saying Volek can, but he can make it interesting). While Clemens is an excellent prospect and I don't think Young will succeed anytime soon, I also don't think Clemens is ready this year, and if he is, I haven't seen him play enough to say he is going to be better than Young. Thus I rank Tennessee slightly ahead of us. As far as Brooks go, we all know he ain't going to take you to the Super Bowl, and about half of his games end with like 200 yards and 3 interceptions, but when was the last time you won a playoff game? Get real buddy he has the talent, just like Volek to air it out and take chances. With him you always have the opportunity to win, even if a lot of the time he is going to crash and burn. Furthermore he is perfectly healthy and has (As much as I hate to admit it) outstanding receivers to throw it to in Moss and Porter, not to mention LaMont Jordan grabbing his balls wink: ) and taking some pressure off of him. In the future, no they don't look like they are going anywhere, but this year I'll see if Pennington can even do anything before I take him and his clipped wing over a healthy Aaron Brooks. (not to mention I only said they would be on par with us) As far as Cleveland goes, eh, I would probably put them behind us in retrospect, but at this point in their careers Frye is obviously more ready than Clemens. As far as the Bears go, I don't even know where to start. They have 3 healthy QBs who have started and proven they can win games (even if they aren't the best or prettiest QBs in the game) So in review, I was probably wrong about the Browns and the Titans is a very debatable position but the other ones, in my opinion, are, in one way or another, in better shape than us.
Yeah that's what I took away from it too, I just messed up the roster bonus next year which got me confused, thinking you were saying we were paying him a bonus from next year salary instead of this years. We are on the same page.
we extended our own statue who was described BY HIS OWN TEAMMATES as "fragile" and "like an egg back there". even the press uses the adjective "oft-injured" as if it's his first name.hmy:
glad to oblige you! he got 24 million pieces of lettuce to play in only 37 games over 6 years. we had the most expensive cheerleading squad in the history of the nfl, and it only had one member!
Yeah, but from the same two people who sent many bad snaps to him and let DE's walk all over them. I don't know where all the pressure came from!
