Gosh I'm trying to stay out of these ridiculous arguments, but I just can't do it. Is there honestly an argument about who is more likely to get hurt? Who knows why Chad gets hurt, he just does. That sucks, but thats the trend. Chad has missed 35 games in 6 years as a starter. That works out to 5.83 games a year. Over a 16 year career can anyone tell me how many works out to? Thats right, 93 games. If Chad could play 16 years he would likely miss 93 games. Now how many has Brett missed in his 16 year career? Of course everyone knows hes missed zero. At this rate Brett will be retired for more than 2 full seasons doing Wrangler commercials before he will have "missed" as many games as Chad has.
Because three interceptions has been more the norm than six touchdowns. You want a consistent QB, not one who has one great game, four fair games, and three crappy games.
If we finish 10-6, everyone is still going to say that we could have finished 10-6 with Chad. That's fine, but I'd much rather be going into that playoff game with Favre than Chad. Chad had a chance to take us to the Championship game by beating Pittsburgh and led us to 3 points. In the same situation, Favre has gotten to the Championship game several times.
Chad is running a trick offense in Miami -- at some point that will get stopped and they will finish 6-10 or 7-9 - still a nice season. Chad in Miami has helped us by beating New England, Buffalo, Denver, and San Deigo Imagine being tied with or chasing all of them? Chad being traded has done more for our playoff chances than if he was in NY
Someone pointed out to me a while back that Chad had to be released. The Favre trade was no guarantee and happened pretty quickly, and no smart team would have traded for Chad when they knew he would be released. And there wasn't exactly a bidding war when the Phins signed him, even though there were a number of teams with question marks at QB.
We have and could go to the playoffs with Chad. We have never nor would we ever win a Sb with Chad. He has proven time and time again that he can not win a game when it is his time to step up in the playoffs. Farve is our Qb for a reason.
Just because Favre isn't throwing a dump-off 2 seconds after the ball is snapped doesn't mean he's holding onto the ball too long.
In this decade both guys have gone to the playoffs, won a couple times and lost without reaching the Super Bowl. Last time Favre got to the Super Bowl Chad was a sophomore at Marshall.
Unloading Pennington got rid of a QB controversy that was brewing and would have been a disaster for this team. Getting Favre allowed the Jets and the fans to view this season as a win now season while still developing the QB of the future without controversy. Pennington going to Miami has benifited us by Miami having maintained their positon as the worst team in the division while still being able to beat Buffalo and NE. 5 & 3 with Chad and Miami lossing to both Buffalo and NE puts us in 3rd out of the playoff picture, that's if the QB controversy didn't kill us first.
He's 2-3--wins over Indy at home, San Diego away, losses to Oakland, Pittsburgh and New England, all away. Tied with Namath and Todd for most post season wins in team history, only one to win in more than one post season.
There was no controversy that was going to be a "disaster", please. Chad put Clemens away in two weeks the last time and was well on his way again. Clemens hasn't proved he can even play yet, Chad is again winning games in the league. I agree the NE and Buffalo wins helped us, though.
This is all good and fine until Chad has to line up against Pittsburgh in the playoffs and the deer in the headlight look comes across his face yet again. The man behind center now will go out trying to win games not trying to manage them.
I don't think anyone is saying that, I sure didn't. This is where another thread goes to hell with overreactions from the haters. Show me a Jet QB with more playoff wins in the 48 year history of the team. Oh yeah, you can't. How many Super Bowls has Favre been to since 1997? It's 2008.
Good points. As long as they oblige us by rolling over a few more times (including the last game), that may turn out to be a big factor.
How many Superbowls has Chad been to in any time frame? This argument is absurd at best. To even put the two in the same sentence is crazy.
