its because the pats dont have to play themselves the way they calculate sos, we have two 13-3 teams on ours (the pats) and they have two 8-8 teams on theirs (the jets) its stupid tho ... our schedules are pretty much the same
I keep hearing this. Every team faces 4 1st place teams, 4 2nd place teams, 4 3rd place teams and 4 4th place teams. Yes, the Jets play the Patriots twice, but the Patriots play two first place teams (Ravens and Broncos) while the Jets play two second place teams (Chargers and Steelers).
Amen... and let's let the season unfold. In recent years, in many cases the best results were obtained by teams with low pre season expectations 2005 Seahawks 2007 Giants 2008 Cardinals 2010 Packers 2011 Giants
They get to play us twice which the "experts" say will be easy while we have to play them twice with these same experts say will be much harder.
I'll make this simple: No. You mentioned the stronger part of the Jets schedule (playing the Patriots) while ignoring the fact that the Patriots play 2 division winners (w/ the Jets play 2 number twos).
Nothing is out of the realm, but as long as we make the playoffs the Jets can make a run with that defense. I don't see us winning the division, not at this stage.
actually, you ignored the fact that i was answering a question posed as to why people seem to think the pats have an easier schedule than the jets and the 2011 division winners that the pats are playing had the same record as the second place teams that the jets are playing
...Which is basically the same schedule as the Jets, except the Pats play the other AFC 1st place teams from last year and the Jets play the teams that came in 2nd... so who has the easiest schedule? According to the "expert", it's the Pats, because the Jets playing the Pats twice rates them a tougher schedule than the Pats having to play the Jets twice. Edit: I guess this was covered...
The only way we win the division is if Brady goes down or if we can somehow go 6-0, 5-1 in divisional play.
The patriots have the easier schedule because the Pats are more likely to beat the Jets than vice versa. If we beat you guys, it's an accomplishment, if you beat us, it's not exactly going to be considered a big deal.
Right, reread what I wrote. While what you are saying might be true, the Patriots play 2 division winners while the Jets play 2 second place teams. This doesn't seem so difficult to comprehend.
The AFC West winners and second placed teams had matching records. The AFC North winners were one game up on the 2nd place team. That is a one game swing to the Jets. 8-8 to 13-3 is a five game swing that counts twice. Bottom line is that the two teams have near-identical schedules outside the head-to-heads.
If Mark Sanchez develops into a top 50% QB, there's a chance. If he becomes elite, with this defense, they damn might win the division. Of course, doubtful
